The Most Stunning Beauty Trend For The Holidays: Bright Eyes

BY: HOLLY BARTTER

Flashes of colour were a common beauty trend on the runways at Spring/Summer Fashion Week, adorning the eyelids of the models as they strode down to the photographers’ pit.

Across the board, designers showcased various luminous shades alongside their garments, and we predict this eye colour injection will catch on for everyday wear during the holiday period.

So to keep you ahead of the curve this season, we’ve put together the top beauty trends for vibrant eyes and the best tips to translate them from the runway to real life.

Beauty Trend #1 Bolt of Blue

While we’ve always heard that blue eyeshadow was a beauty faux pas, it seems the designers do not agree. Cool blues were painted onto the eyes of the models backstage at Chanel, Missoni, and Monique Lhuillier.

For the best ready-to-wear use of this tricky shade, we recommend taking a more reserved approach. Opt for a slightly deeper shade of blue in liner or cream shadow form. Precision is key, so ensure you stay close to your lash line and build out to a slight wing.

To finish, a blue tinted mascara is a quick way to unify your eye look. Navy is flattering for all eyes, but for the brave, a lick of vibrant azure mascara on the ends of your lashes will have you singing the blues in no time.

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in ‘LSD’ (RRP $30.00)
  • Australis MegaLash Mascara in ‘Electric Blue’ (RRP $11.95)

Beauty Trend #2 Soft Seventies

Whilst bold 70’s looks starred on the runway at DVF, delicate pinks, greens and oranges were gently buffed onto eyelids at Alexis Mabille, Dsquared2 and Rodarte, resulting in an ultra-feminine feel with a retro twist. Teaming up perfectly with lightly tanned skin and surf-tousled waves or top-knots, it’s a easygoing addition to your Summer beauty routine.

Start with a matte base to minimise any colour transfer on your lids, and add your chosen pastel shade working from the centre of the lid and blending across. To avoid looking dated, blend the shades outwards towards your temples rather than up close to your brow, and always select a colour with a modern twist (think soft burnt orange rather than chalky baby pink!).

To tie it all together, try a dark brown mascara over black, and aim for elongated and soft lashes instead of full and smokey.

Get the look:

  • Bareminerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer (RRP $26.00)
  • NARS Eyeshadow in ‘Valhalla’, ‘Strada’ or ‘Malaca’ (RRP $35.00 each)
  • NYX Colour Mascara in ‘Brown’ (RRP $12.95)

Beauty Trend #3 Subdued Sparkle

Party season often calls for a hint of opulence, and Delpozo, Ann Demeulemeester and Carolina Herrera illuminated eyes at their shows with just a touch of metallic shimmer. This trend is perfect for evening wear, catching the light in all the right ways.

Begin with a satin base shade in either a warm peach or neutral tone, applied as a light wash over the entire lid, blending well for no harsh edges. You can then layer some translucent eye gloss over the top, and finish by pressing loose gold or silver shimmer onto the gloss for grip.

To keep it fresh, place the shimmer and gloss only on the very centre portion of your eyelid, and carry the shimmer into the inner corners of your eyes for a modern twist on fairy dust.

Get the look:

  • Napoleon Perdis Loose Eye Dust in ‘Disco Glitter’ (RRP $35.00)
  • Stila Eyeshadow Compact in ‘Dune’ (RRP $26.00)
  • MAC Studio Eye Gloss in ‘Pearl Varnish’ (RRP $45.00)

The playful eye trends on runways this season leaves you free to experiment with all kinds of textures, shapes and shades, so don’t shy away from trying something new – just keep the makeup wipes on hand while you practice.
