We’ve all read those articles such as “the 10 items every woman must own” which invariably leads to a list of must-haves such as a “crisp white shirt”, a camel trench and the LBD. Sure, these items all have their merit (though aren’t they just …boring?)
I’m going out on a limb here by suggesting that an 11th item be officially added to this globally enforced accepted list of female wardrobe necessities, and that item is: The Tuxedo Jacket.
This isn’t the first time I’ve stated the case for the tuxedo jacket, in fact I think I made a pretty compelling argument here only recently.
Happily however, I can report that (hurrah!) the tuxedo jacket is no longer the stuff of my dreams and blog posts, it’s the stuff of my wardrobe. Yes, I finally own one!
I can now talk with first-hand experience that the tuxedo jacket really IS everything you’d ever want in a garment. Timeless, empowering and utterly chic, it’s little wonder that countless celebs such as Emma Watson, Olivia Palermo, The Olsen Twins, Victoria Beckham and all the other good ones are spotted in theirs every five minutes.
Whether draped nonchalantly over the shoulders atop a slinky gown; teamed with a fierce slim pant or paired with a sexy skirt the tuxedo jacket morphs and enhances.
So much more interesting than a classic blazer yet no more of an investment, it is for all these reasons and more, that everyone ought to think of The Tuxedo Jacket as their wardrobe’s 11th “absolute must-have”.
Suitably, my wonderful new tuxedo jacket which I picked up at Farfetch (they have plenty to choose from, make sure to have a browse!) was the perfect piece to wear for a trip to the Sydney Opera House recently.
Do I make a convincing case for the tuxedo jacket? Let me know in the comments below!
I was drawn to the strong shoulder and wider lapel on this semi double-breasted jacket by ‘Tagliatore‘. A beautiful Italian label I have only just discovered, the jacket did not disappoint with it’s fantastic cut, impeccable tailoring and beautiful details.
I honestly cannot wait to add another Tagliatore jacket to my collection, the label makes a range of jackets in fabulous colours and amazing textures such as lurex and sequins… (Look out!)
I could have played it safe with a classic black clutch but I saw this quirky graffiti-print clutch by Moschino (also at Farfetch – now on sale) and instantly fell in love. A perfect size that fits the necessities, the clutch’s envelope shape remains slimline and elegant no matter what. A brand that I absolutely adore, I was adding this one to cart pretty easily.
In what could otherwise be construed as a very “party time” outfit without the jacket (leather short skirt and gold mesh tank top, hello!) the tuxedo jacket has rescued this outfit from the NYE hall of fame, and it’s now an easily-wearable look because of it.
The vegan-leather skirt (current range) and gold mesh top (previous season) are by Dotti. The suede stilettos (a.k.a my “signature shoes” ) are by Atmos & Here from the iconic. The modernist pearl earrings are available in my current collection at Glamadonna.
Will you be adding a tuxedo jacket and quirky clutch to your wardrobe this season? Let us know in the comments below!

I like your hair just that little bit longer… And I love bags, I’ve got quite the collection – they can transform an outfit.
Thank you! (I’m preferring it longer too!) Agree on bags, can’t have enough of them 😉
