This week, Salone del Mobile began in Milan, showcasing the world’s finest in design from furniture to appliances. The week-long gathering of leaders in the furnishing and design sector, gave visitors plenty of clues about how modern and futuristic our homes will soon become.
Showcasing the latest in kitchen design and technology, was Whirlpool which is leading the “internet of things” in our homes – specifically in the kitchen. The company is designing solutions to recognise that we are living more social, digitized lives.
From planning meals, to storing food, to cooking and cleaning – innovative appliances are being designed to transform every step in the cooking process to make cooking even more enjoyable, and make exceptional food part of everyday life.
Its premium W Collection – a cooking range inspired by the way we live today, features ‘6TH SENSE ‘ technology and Internet connectivity to bring a smart user experience into the home. These technologies and appliances which are designed to connect with each other to make our live easier, will soon be a part of everyday life.
At Salone del Mobile, the W Collection received 2 iF Design Awards, awarded to Whirlpool based on the premium design aspects of the futuristic collection.
The W Collection includes every appliance needed to become your own Master Chef at home – built-in ovens, microwaves, cooktops and more. All products offer Internet connectivity powered by the 6TH SENSE Live app. This is an exciting glimpse in our kitchens of the future, as the different appliances are able to seamlessly communicate among themselves!
For example, the built-in rangehoods can connect with the cooktop to recognise its cooking mode and automatically tailor the power to ensure fresh air, or provide customisable notifications of other appliances’ status.
And for anyone who ever gets disappointed when recently-purchased fresh food goes bad, take notes: Included in the W Collection, the intelligent 6TH SENSE technology is even able to help monitor and automatically optimise fridge performance to preserve food for longer in the most natural way.
As well as providing remote control and monitoring, the products in Whirlpool’s new range brings practical benefits such as discovering recipes, customising one’s appliance for fast access to favourite settings and giving users tips and guidance on using features.
The convenience of these connected appliances is set to get even better through the addition of Google Assistant, which offers hands-free voice interaction.
And, most of us would be familiar with Whirlpool’s most iconic brand, KitchenAid! Not to be outdone, Kitchen Aid also unveiled its stunning range of major domestic appliances, set to launch in Australia later this year, with a concept store in Melbourne.
Part of this lineup includes super-clever ovens and fridges to make us all even better cooks and entertainers. The brand has developed appliances with chef-inspired features that make preparing food a truly enjoyable experience, from preservation to preparation to serving.
