Trend How-To: The Maxi Skirt

Whether you’re tall, short, curvaceous or petite, the maxi skirt is the piece of the season this AW 2011.

Its safe to say that any fashionista would be blind to miss the presence of these lengthy hemlines on the catwalks, high-street and on celebrities of late. But restricted this style is not! Ankle sweeping for tall figures and calf grazing for the more petite, long is sexy, sophisticated and so on-trend.

This season on the catwalks Calvin Klein and Narciso Roderiguez said ‘sleek simplicity’ better than any other – a gentle introduction if you’re not feeling brave enough to launch straight into the 70’s inspired prints and shimmering fabrics brought to us by Marc Jacobs.

Wear bolder styles with a statement necklace and metal accessories to stand out from the crowd and dress up the understated options using wooden block wedges and printed scarves to add colour and movement to the ensemble.

If your feeling really brave this season go wild with The Duro Olowu piece below – clashing prints is the chicest way to wear the trend. Simply teamed with a plain white tee and an oversized tote you’ll be making the ultimate spring statement. Or if boho is how you roll, again you need look no further! Playing with the proportions of these lengthy lines you can work the contemporary bohemian look a-la Mary-Kate by adding a long vest or knitted cardi and flat shoes. Finish with an enormous pair of sunnies and tousled hair and you’re good to go!

Whatever the weather, whatever the occasion and whatever the look you’re going for this season; a maxi skirt is a sure winner in the style stakes. One for every day of the week..? I think this may be a wise move!

I am a big fan of maxis, i am not too fond of showing off my legs and maxis are perfect to feel summery without your butt cheeks hanging out
