In his 20th year as a fashion designer, Steven Khalil celebrated the milestone by hosting his first ever show at Australian Fashion Week.
Khalil’s namesake label, which counts stars such as Kylie Jenner, Dannii Minogue, Jesinta Campbell, Guiliana Rancic, Sonia Kruger, Paula Abdul and Jessica Mauboy as fans, is known for it’s couture-quality bridal and red-carpet creations that combine classical elements with a contemporary edge.
Needless to say, his Couture Collection Show at MBFWA did not disappoint! Easily one of the most highly-regarded shows of the week, Khalil’s collection was truly stunning.
Whilst the show opened with an ultra-minimal black pants-suit/jumpsuit it only took a second for the more anticipated evening looks to come out. These kicked off via a series of elegant grey and navy gowns that were exactly the “edgy classicism” Khalil is known for.

Not for the faint-hearted, we witnessed the next look Khalil had in store – a fabulous gold beaded bodysuit teamed with nothing but the most perfectly tailored cropped black jacket and classic black pumps. (Can’t wait to see which celeb wears this!)

The next highlight for me took the form of the bedazzled body-hugging full, and midi-length skirts that caused the models to wiggle their way down the runway. I also particularly loved the 40’s-esque jacket that Khalil teamed with one of the skirts.

Khalil then dared to combine navy and black via two spectacular looks: One crystal-encrusted “evening sweater” which topped off a minimally-classic black satin pencil skirt, and a flowing full-skirted black dress with sparkling navy “vest” belted over the top – exquisite!

I practically fainted when a wet-look black beaded evening gown made it’s way down the runway. This design would have been stunning in any colour and any fabric, but in this particular black, I could not get enough! (Note the edgy blue lining.)

A sheer polka dot confection made it’s way down next. A Victoriana-esque full length, full sleeved evening gown that wasn’t without it’s own type of sexiness…

The three bridal looks which ended the collection were of course, amazing! This set was composed of two ultra-glamourous, somewhat daring bridal gowns and one show-stopping hero gown which left no-one with any doubt as to why Steven Khalil has succeeded through two decades when many others have come and gone. Bravo!

Love some of the evening wear, I wish I have places to wear this to.
Some very glam long evening dresses – so swishy – it would be fun to wear those! Beautiful bride dress at the back.

Not sure about these – a bit of a mixed bag. I like the gold bodysuit, but wouldn’t wear it in a fit.
He threw a few different looks in there compared to his usual ones, good pick up BellaB..!
