Gym Class ’14 Represent: Arguably the hottest trend of this year is one that embodies a comfortable Sport Luxe / Normcore edgy yet slouchy look all-in-one.
(Editors note: What on earth is Normcore? The New York Times defines it thus: “Normcore (noun) 1. A fashion movement, c. 2014, in which scruffy young urbanites swear off the tired street-style clichés of the last decade — skinny jeans, wallet chains, flannel shirts — in favor of a less-ironic (but still pretty ironic) embrace of bland, suburban anti-fashion attire” So that clears that up.)
Go back a step? – THE ANATOMY OF A TREND: SPORT LUXE
Dust off those tights and sweats (no, not the Olivia Newton-John bad boys) and pair them up with Marants or those coveted Nike kicks and join the movement.
For inspiration, look to El Presidente Pip Edwards (General Pants’ Creative Director and all-round cool girl) who leads this fashion-savvy pack, with Christine Centenera of Vogue Australia coming in a close second, and Amanda Shadforth of OracleFox blog rounding out the team in third!
Our tip: Mix feminine with the relaxed, minimal, and sporty pieces in your wardrobe and you’re guaranteed success. We’re talking hoodies around the waist, bombers, jersey tee’s and if you’re a brave fashionista – those track pants. Our biggest tip of all – less is more!
NB: you do not have to be athletic to join the Sports Luxe team. It’s all in the attitude!
