Introducing Relaxed Racing: The Fun Of The Races Minus The Fuss

BY: VANESSA ROBERTS

When we think of the Spring Racing Carnival, we often imagine a big day out filled with flamboyant head wear, designer dresses,  slick suits and oodles of glamour. If you’re a fashion lover, or just love a good mingle (who doesn’t) then Spring Racing Carnival has your name written all over it.

However, whilst we will always love the glitz and glam of the Spring Racing Carnival, we also can’t help but love the laid back approach and relaxing vibe that comes with the Melbourne summer. With that in mind, we have found a great new series of events on the Victorian racing calendar you will LOVE.

Introducing: ‘Relaxed Racing’. Spread over a seven week schedule, Relaxed Racing is designed to offer the more chilled race-goers (including families) an opportunity to take part in all the fun of a day at the track, without the fuss.

Relaxed Racing

Utilising the most iconic tracks in Victoria including Caulfield and Mornington, Relaxed Racing is everything you love about a day at the track in a relaxing summer setting.

Hosted from February through to March, this is a showcase of premium thoroughbred racing to enjoy with friends and family – or both!

It is an opportunity to roll out the picnic blanket, open the gourmet picnic hamper (read all about how to create the perfect racing hamper here) and share a unique Summer moment that’s fun and entertaining.

And, as far as the fashion goes, almost anything goes! (Do I hear a sigh of relief?) Ladies are encouraged to swap their carefully curated looks for an effortless summer dress; whilst gents can say “sayonara” to the suit and “salute” to the short!

I’m already imagining ahead, visualising a floaty little white dress, a straw boater hat and sandals for the girls; and tailored shorts, an open necked shirt and some slip-on shoes for the boys.

One element of this year’s Relaxed Racing schedule which really took my fancy is Caulfield’s V.I.Picnic. What better way to spend a summer afternoon than feasting on a deluxe hamper (options range from $75-$95 per hamper), popping a bottle of bubbly and watching the horses thunder past from your VIP vantage point?

For those with little ones, there are plenty of children’s facilities located nearby including crafts, face-painting and an Easter egg hunt.

So giddy up again folks, because Relaxed Racing sounds like the perfect late Summer / early Autumn activity to me!
