The Napoleon Perdis Creative Team has recently returned from another successful week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane (the 5th season for both Napoleon Perdis and myself), and the good thing to know for this Spring/Summer is that makeup trends are all about KISS; Keep It Summer Simple! Choose one trend for one feature and make it work for your personal style.
At MBFF Brisbane we mixed and matched the trends a little to show how the savvy can work a complete look. However, summer to me means no fuss, simple application and fresh looks that can be worn from beachhouse to bar or desk to dusk. When in Brisbane, you can really start to feel the warmer months approaching!
It’s now warming up everywhere and Spring is truly in the air, so kick off your summer beauty with makeup trends from Napoleon Perdis:
1. Expensive, Luxe Skin
Think a radiant, creamy texture with minimal coverage. With advances in cosmetic technology these days we’re lucky enough to be able to achieve such things as expensive, luxe-looking skin with one handy, multi-purpose product! To achieve this I love Auto Pilot BBB Cream (an extra ‘B’ because it’s not just a beauty balm but a beauty-boosting balm); with skin repair and anti-aging benefits (thanks to Snail Mucus), a creamy, yet lightweight coverage and SPF 30, it’s all you need for summer!
2. Couture Contouring
A well-executed contour is modern and incredibly face flattering. A great contour is like shapewear for the face; it should lift and define in all the right places without being seen. Napoleon wanted to make contouring easy for all women by removing the guess work. It’s easier then it looks, especially when you have the right tools. And it’s THE move you need to master right now. The brand new, yet to be launch hero product is the Couture Contour Duo – easy to use, buildable powders which are the secret to defying gravity. The brushes included in the collection fit perfectly into the angles of the face to make the application even easier.
3. Feline Liner
A feline liner that works the inner and outer corners of the eyes adds a modern but still feminine edge to a summer look; this type of liner makes a statement on it’s own. Wear it in black or opt for more daring colours like purple or emerald. I love perfecting my shape first with a black gel liner (like China Doll Gel Eyeliner Equinox) then I take a colour over the tip of the flick. You can turn any shadow or pigment into a liquid liner with Cake Eyeliner Sealer: Just use the mirror or your shadow palette as a palette, mix, and apply with a fine brush for precision.
4. The Modern Bold Lip
The Modern Bold Lip is more about texture than colour, so find the right texture for you that’s comfortable to wear and easy to maintain. It could be a stain, a full cream, a matte or a gloss. There are many different ways you can wear the same colour: simply stain your lips with a pencil, apply layers of cream lipstick with a brush for a really precise pout or you can even set your lipstick with a complementary shade of eye shadow for a luxurious matte. Other than application, the most important thing to remember is the Napoleon rule; wear it for 12 minutes before you decide if it’s fab or drab. Your eye needs to adjust to a new shade and how it complements your features. Don’t be too quick to ditch it, it could be just the change you need.
Have fun!
