Audrey Talks: 30 Day Zumba Challenge Week 2

Day two of my 30 Day Zumba Challenge began bright and early again at  Fitness First St Leonards to train with one of the bubbliest Zumba instructors you will ever meet  Kathy “Bananas”   (You can reach Kathy for classes on 0414 226 199 or at, so worth it!).

Kathy was a little harder on us this time around- it was how a normal Zumba class would really be, going through heaps of different Latin rhythms and styles as well as a little bit of hip hop, African influences, Bollywood and samba.

Seriously, it’s like traveling the world in one, neon clad, energetic hour that is one part workout and ten parts party time! It’s actually almost like going through circuit training, as each class builds or slows changing up your heart rate, which is how you loose fat and tone muscle.

This is the last class we have taken before we get to dive into the crazy world of a group Zumba class, which I am very excited for! If the website and TV ads are anything to go by- it’s a whole lotta fun! It’s the kind of thing where the sillier you are, the more fun you have and by extension- the more exercise you get.

The funny thing is that the only place you’d generally find me playing an imaginary set of bongo drums is in my living room with the curtains closed, so it’s actually very freeing and invigorating to just do all those crazy moves with a class and release all your tension and stress while working out.

As Kathy says, “Every Zumba class is a party class, because you can forget about your worries and stress of everyday life and go on a journey of fun, laughter, of singing and dancing, and shaking and shimmying and a chance to just loose yourself in the music”.

Amen to that Kathy Bananas! As a complete and utter Zumba convert I have dragged my two best girlfriends along to classes now as well…bring on my bikini bod!
