In Her Wardrobe: Alice, of THE INFLUENCER

Tell us your name, and how you got involved with The Influencer?

I’m Alice. I started THE INFLUENCER with two of my best friends (Alyce & Ashli) when we decided to combine our backgrounds in styling, journalism and blogging to bring something fresh to the fashion industry. Through our content we hope to inspire our readers and bridge them closer to the realm of fashion.

What’s your career path up until this point?

While studying my undergraduate degree I worked as a stylist at Sportsgirl (where Alyce, Ashli & I met), during this time I immersed myself in the fashion industry. From backstage dressing with L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, freelance styling and a number of internships (SHOP Til You Drop Magazine, 2threads & The Australian Fashion Guide). In 2010, I launched my personal blog Catwalk of Words to publish my perspectives on fashion events, people and places, peppered with snapshots of my style. Last year while studying my Masters I won a competition to be the Resident Blogger for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW)… and now, I have just landed a job as the Social Media Coordinator for JASU!

What are your all time favourite pieces in your wardrobe?

I always seem to gravitate towards bold prints and bright colours. My wardrobe hero is this gold jacket by Thurley (included in images) it elevates even the simplest outfit to high fashion chic. I l also love basics and oversized knits paired with leather pants or jeans (digging the boyfriend style at the moment, who isn’t?).

What is your style mantra?

Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour in your wardrobe.

Key pieces for the upcoming season?

Jumpsuits, denim overalls and a pair of neoprene bathers.

Who or what inspires you day to day?

I don’t follow one particular person. But, fresh street style, coffee and good writing inspire me to continue contributing my own thing to the blogosphere.

What are your three tips to shopping online?

1. Check for promo codes. A lot of sites have student discounts, free shipping or savings by signing to their database.
2. Create a browser tab to bookmark your favourite stores.
3. Do your price research. Often pieces are listed on multiple sites and especially during sale season there can be a huge variation.

If you could have breakfast with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Anna Wintour. She’s had an incredible contribution to the global fashion industry. Deciding what to wear to breakfast… now that would be pretty daunting!
