Make sure you look fresh and fabulous this summer with our top tips to ensuring your make up is perfect!
1. Invest in a primer. Napoleon Perdis NP Set Primer works a treat at keeping your make-up in place, and there’s also a pore minimising option to suit different skin types.
2. Instead of thick, heavy foundation; cover your problem areas with concealer, and then set with a light face powder. The concealer mean’s you won’t feel naked, and the powder will provide an even, sheen finish that will keep shine at bay – all whilst letting your skin breathe. Clinique’s All about Eyes Concealer is a definitely worth a try (and works just as well on other face areas as it does under the eyes), as is Almay’s TLC Pressed Powder.
3. Dab illuminator on the brow bone, very tip of the nose (note: only the very tip, not down the whole front of your nose), and cheek bones. Instant radiance and a ‘holiday glow’ is the result.
4. Sweep a small amount of blush on the apples of your cheeks. Ones with a hint of shimmer are also great for extra luminescence– but take care not to overdo it, as the result will be shiny, not sexy. Plus: blush is actually better for enhancing your faux tan than bronzer is as the colours complement each other, and looks more natural.
5. Lessen the amount of eye makeup you wear. Or, consider getting an eyelash tint to avoid mascara all together! If you’re a true eyeliner/mascara devotee, invest in waterproof options to avoid black smudges. L’Oreal Infallible Eyeliner is great; stays put for up to 16hours and is waterproof. As is Cover girl’s Lash Blast Fusion Mascara. Just remember the golden rule: Less is more!
6. Use blotting tissues. In the form of convenient purse size packs, these babies absorb excess oil and keep your make up looking fresh. They’re much better than using your hands to blot your face; which melts your make up from body heat, and thus transfers it onto your clothes. They’re also better than blotting with a tissue, as they’re designed to specifically absorb oil (as opposed to everything in sight).
7. If you love wearing lipstick, invest in a lip tint. Apart from staying on for much longer than crème lipsticks, you can eat, drink, and dance the night away with far less worries. Lip tints also look fabulous with a similar coloured gloss over the top, which is an extra bonus, as lip gloss is pretty easy to re-apply – even in a dimly lit taxi (post cocktails). Revlon Just Bitten Lip Tint and Revlon Colour Burst Lip-gloss are a winning combination for a punchy, summer pout.
