Saturday night makeup should be your showstopper. It’s the night for anticipated big events, new love on first dates and bar-hopping with the girls ’til your stilettos snap. Unlike Friday, Saturday night lets you ease into the night with a few pre-cocktails, whilst spending time putting the finishing touches on your makeup. Practise these skills often enough and you’ll soon have the professional touch to turn yourself into a vixen 7 days a week.
To take your Saturday night face to the next level, enhance your natural beauty and get compliments all night long, read on…
1. Contour and highlight taking into consideration your face shape.
Don’t be scared to be generous with concealer, you can blend out any excess later. You want to aim to bring out the best in your bone structure, giving the illusion you’re under the glamour lights.
2. Blend absolutely everything.
From concealer to liquid foundation, finishing powder, blush and eye shadow; blending with good quality brushes will make sure your makeup appears seamless with your skin.
TIP: Make sure you blend in front of a well-lit mirror. This will prepare you for harsh lighting or coming home after sunrise.
3. Break Lipstick Application into Steps.
Conceal your lips first to lay a neutral base on which the true colour of the lipstick can pop, especially bright matte tones. To avoid smudges and enhance precision, use a matching lip liner and apply your lipstick with a lip brush. A lip brush will give a more even and longer lasting application and help to blend the lipstick colour with the liner.
4. Define Your Eyebrows
Professional-looking eyebrows are about shading, not creating hard lines. Define with an angled flat brush and fill gaps with an appropriate eye shadow colour. Make sure to even out the look by blending with a dry mascara brush. Highlighting the brow bone will open and lift the eyes, adding an extra touch of appeal.
TIP: Many women’s natural brows fall short of where they should ideally extend. Take a pencil beside your nose and run it past the outer corner of your eye. Where it crosses the eyebrow height is the ideal point where your brow should extend too. When lining the brow in this section, as you drag your brush outwards, gently release pressure to keep the lines soft and natural.
5. Apply fake lashes to enhance the eyes.
For special events when you know the cameras will be out, fake eyelashes can give you a movie star quality that will make you the envy of all your Instagram followers. Correct application is key. If fakies aren’t your thing, at the very least invest in a good quality eyelash curler and apply not one but three coats of mascara.
TIP: A coat of liquid eyeliner can help to conceal the join between your lids and lashes. If you’re a little shaky with your eyeliner technique, sharp liquid pens are easier to apply than pot and brush application.
