5 Ways To Revamp Your Home for 2015 According To Kelly Wearstler

The New Year is rife with inspiration for fresh fixes and stylish updates for the home. It is the perfect time to look back in gratitude, and to set goals for moving forward.

The simple act of streamlining your space by elevating it with clever touches promises to leave you feeling refreshed and inspired. Here are Kelly Wearstler’s favourite ways to channel a confident new vibe now.

1. Edit Your Space

“Focus on what works, and lose what doesn’t. I am a strong proponent of a biannual cleanse. Every few months I set aside time to edit my studio and home, discarding anything that is not absolutely essential. Organization is the key to success. Extraneous items that do not add value or have a clear purpose must go. A well-curated abode is a stress-free zone.”

2. Upgrade the Essentials

Invest once in a quality coffee machine (gold plated cups optional!) and life will be a lot better. Image: Pinterest

“If there is something you use every day, splurging on a super-luxe version feels decadent and special. Look to chic barware, elevated china patterns or ultra-plush towels to give your home that extra boost of luxury and refinement.”

3. Play With Pattern

I love this incredible large-scale wallpaper. A beautiful juxtaposition against rustic and earthy furniture. Image: http://lisa.chic.se/

“Go big with statement wallpaper or curtains, or focus on small embellishments in the way of pillows and decorative throws. Switching up an existing pattern with a bold new colour way, or mixing in additional, harmonious prints evokes a spirited sense of eclecticism. To ensure cohesiveness, choose complementary colors and be mindful of the dialogue between patterns.”

4. Expand Your Art Collection

Art will transform any space, and doesn’t have to cost a fortune. This modernist Franz Kline-style painting sharpens up a French interior. Image: BWA’s Pinterest

“Art is a fantastic, easy way to add color and texture to any wall. A vibrant work of art sets the tone and mood for a space. Check out sites like Exhibition Aand Artspace for a range of originals and prints at every price point.” (Editors Note: I love and can recommend Surface View for amazing iconic and contemporary photographs that you can order to any size (including murals) and even have them turned into ceramic tiles and drapes.)

5. Add a Conversation Piece

Dig out interesting or tactile objects to get the conversation started and provide insight into your personality. Image: Kellywearstler.com

“An iconic coffee table book, bauble box, or cool vintage find adds drama and allure. Seek out pieces that feel personal and soulful. Special touches that resonate with your unique aesthetic bring life and vibrancy to a home. Guests will enjoy thoughtful flourishes—from a new fragrance to a bold decorative bowl—and these additions offer chic panache and up-to-the-minute style.”

Glad everyone enjoyed the article! I’m implementing some changes at home as we speak.

That’s no good about your husbands thoughts on art on the walls @compacc123 – maybe go for a coloured or wallpapered feature wall or two throughout the home?!

Just revamping the 10 year old’s room today but it doesn’t look anything like as opulent as those rooms.

Great suggestions! I’d love to add art to my walls but my grumpy husband hates anything hanging on the walls. Think this is the year for changing his mind! (BWA says so).
