Being stuck at home isn’t fun for anyone. But for many people, it presents severe financial difficulties as they are cut off entirely from their usual sources of income. Fortunately, there are still ways that you can make money at home, whether you need to supplement your income or find a way of replacing your wages entirely.
#1 – Sell A Marketable Skill
There is an amazingly large number of people out there with highly marketable skills who just don’t realise it. If you have a skill that other people are willing to pay for, your only problem is how to market yourself to them.
For example, if you are a competent writer you can turn that skill into cash. There are countless individuals and businesses who are willing to pay someone else to do what they can’t. Platforms like Upwork that connect freelancers with people in need of their services are the most efficient way of finding potential clients, but there are plenty of providers who support the freelance/gig economy so just look around to find one that suits you best.
#2 – Find A Work From Home Job
Before COVID-19, working from home as a regular employee was a rarity. Now, working from home is becoming the standard in most places. As a result, there are now a plethora of work from home jobs listed online for you to choose from.
The Australian government has a job search portal that makes it easy to find job opportunities in any field or industry you choose. The best news is, working from home often allows you to juggle multiple activities at once and get more hours out of your day, given you no longer need to commute to a workplace!
#3 – Sell Some Of Your Old Stuff
Another obvious way of making some quick money in a pinch is to find what stuff you don’t need and put it up for sale. There are plenty of options for how you sell things you don’t need. Websites like eBay and Amazon make it easy, and many people have had success selling items through Facebook marketplace.
Selling your old stuff isn’t just a great way of putting some extra money in your pocket; it is also a good way of decluttering your home. If lockdown has taught us anything, it’s that having an untidy home makes it even worse. Most of us could do with a good declutter right now, so don’t be afraid to part with things you don’t need.
#4 – A word of caution
When things get tough, it’s common for people to look into riskier ways of having fun and/or making money, and online gambling is one of them. Of course, there are no guarantees that you won’t lose money instead, but it’s easy to forget this when the bills pile up or boredom from being stuck at home sets in.
It’s believed that some gambling is easier to win at than others. For example, people like to think that playing blackjack online and poker are different because they involve skill. The theory is that the player can affect the odds of the game to some extent and has the option of “playing it safe.” But the fact is, in most casino games, the casino has better odds than the player. And with things stacked against you, reliably making money from online gambling is extremely difficult.
Above are just some of the ways you can make money, but there are plenty more out there. Check out our Lifestyle section for more inspiration and ideas about how to work, live and play.
