Splurge Or Steal: Weekend Wear

Ah, the indescribable feeling of waking up fresh on a Saturday morning with a full 48 hours of me-time ahead of you – there’s nothing quite like it. We are finally free to dress as we please as we brunch, nap, and cruise our way through the weekend.

For most, these are the only two days to dress creatively and to show off that new pair of slouchy One Teaspoon jeans you bought at their sample sale the weekend prior. Weekend wear is all about expressing your current mood, while still remaining comfortable and chic.

SHOPPING POST: PARED-BACK PEARLS

We’ve narrowed down a few versatile items to add to your weekend wardrobe. These five items can be added to any casual outfit to ensure you’re ready for whatever adventure the weekend throws your way. And because we understand the never-ending struggle between shopping and paychecks, we’ve offered two options – a splurge and a steal for each item.

1. Striped Jumper

One can never go wrong with a nautical-style striped jumper as an easy piece to wear on a chilly day. We suggest you go up one from your usual size as a little bagginess goes on a long way in terms of style.

2. Skinny Jeans

When weekend dressing (or any dressing for that matter), it’s critical to think of proportions. Take a note from Olivia Palermo and Nicole Richie’s book of style and always consider the proportions of each piece when pairing items together. Tight, skinny jeans work best when paired with loose tops, and the reverse is true as well – baggier jeans look best when pair with tighter tops.

3. White Tee

The simple white tee hangs proud as the most basic and versatile piece in a wardrobe. It can be dressed down with jeans and flats for a walk with friends or dressed up with a mini-skirt and heels for a date night.

4. Boater Hat

An easy way to add a splash of European flavour to a basic outfit is by adding a boater hat. With the neutrality of the straw material, a boater hat can be added to any outfit – no matter how busy or colourful. Check out our recent trend run-down on the boater here.

5. Minimalistic Sandals

When considering good weekend shoes, the most important feature to consider is comfort with style coming in a close second. As you never know how much walking you’ll be doing over the weekend (but it’ll undoubtedly be a lot more walking than during the week), you’ll want to ensure your shoes are well-made and easy on your feet (no one likes a blister!)

I like the way stripes make me looked dressed up when I didn’t try to hard.

I like long-lines to wear over leggings on the weekends – so comfy.

It’s easy to see that first para was written by a non-parent! 🙂 But the clothes suggestions are useful for everyone.
