In recent years, backlash over the use of photoshop to manipulate photos and imagery in the media has grown.
Why? It can be said that the use of photoshop to create unrealistic expectations of beauty and image for both men and women has led to an increase in eating disorders, depression, body dismorphia and anxiety.
While Photoshop in its purest form to create digital art or beautiful images is in itself harmless, and in fact I am a great appreciator of this, it is the intent behind big media outlets to perpetuate body ideals that are in fact largely unattainable that has me rankled.
When we’re flooded with images every day that tell us that beauty is worth, and that beauty is unattainable- it’s not hard to see why many young people (myself included) have battled with their weight and looks. It’s time to start teaching people that our value is who we are, how kind we are, and what we hope to accomplish rather than what is skin deep.
