With our trip down to Melbourne  for our second year covering LMFF, I wanted to make more of an effort to to experience more of the cultural program. There was so much on offer and I was only able to reach a few destinations but one in particulr on my list to see was The Spirit of the Black Dress exhibition.
In its 4th year, The Spirit of the Black Dress begins as a contest for up and coming designers to create a black dress that combines beautiful aesthetics with innovative design techniques . The exhibition aims to foster a dialogue around sustainable design so sets a list of requirement for all designs to use sustainable methods of production and materials.
The result is 10 designs chosen by some of fashions elite and exhibited to the public at our viewing pleasure. I was amazed at the elite talent level of these up and coming designers and that their wearable works of art are not only incredible to look but but are great for the environment also.
The exhibition is free and is open until Tuessday 20th March at The Trust 405 Flinders Lane Melbourne.

Wauuuuu. A black dress really is a classic and a must-have
black always looks hot and stylish
I love a LBD as much as the next girl (a lot!) but seeing them all together like this looks kind of morbid and depressing? Is it just me? It kind of looks oppressive and funeral-like to me. Must just be my imagination! How exciting to see the exhibit though!
It’s not just me, makes me not want to wear black for a while.
wow so amazing!
I love the LBD..these look a little too EMO/Goth for my liking… 😯
I love a little black dress, always a winner
some stunning and innovative designs
Number 13 is my favourite!
What interesting entries! Was there a reason that they were all wearing the same make up?
..agree?..maybe the ghost of Robert Palmer was lurking?
