Ten Facial Cleansers Under Ten Dollars

Finding beauty treatments that work is one thing, finding ones that are super affordable on any budget is just the icing on the cake.

We thought we would bring you our top ten facial cleansers, from foams to exfoliants and gels that wont break the bank.

1. Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub $8.85

This is a great exfoliating cleanser for all skin types. The first time I used this, was in the morning before work and I felt like I had been hit in the face with a breath of fresh air. It is a creamy formula with micro beads and salicyclic acid to unclog your pores and remove dry or dead skin. Once lathered it is light foaming and is a gentle enough formula to use everyday. It is also dermatologically tested, hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).

2. Dove Gentle Exfoliating Facial Cleanser $5.99

This is my go to if I am a little short of funds and I want something that is super affordable that I know works. It’s microbeads are very fine and thus are way less abrasive than other exfoliants. They dissolve as you lather which polishes and cleanses without being too rough. The formula also contains 1/4 moisturising lotion and is hypo-allergenicm, non-comedogenic and dermatologically tested

3. Palmers Gentle Facial Cleanser $8.80

This creamy cleanser foams very lightly and gently to remove oil and dirt without drying out your skin. Milk proteins and antioxidants are in the formula to brighten and hydrate, and like most Palmer’s products leaves your skin feeling pretty fresh and bright.

4. Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser $8.95

This cleanser is super gentle- especially good for acne-prone skin.I have very sensitive skin and I found that this clears up blemishes when they pop up in a couple of days. It does a relatively good job with makeup removal but I recommend using a makeup remover first anyway. This cleanser lathers up very nicely and leaves you feeling clean and refreshed, not dry and squeaky.

5. Cetaphil Cleaner $10.00

This is as simple a product as you can find on the market. It is not fancy but it really gets the job done. This product is so mild it could be used on a baby, and is a recommended product from many a dermatologist. It is a creamy, simple formula which isn’t crammed full of chemicals or irritants. For ten dollars this is an amazing all rounder product for all skin types.

6. Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser $9.97

This cleanser won the 2010 Readers Choice Winner for Allure Magazine in the states and it is clear why. Most cleansers do not remove all traces of dirt and makeup, but this does! It also moisturizes like crazy and leaves your cheeks baby smooth. Great for all skin types!

7. Ponds Cold Cream $7.99

It may seem a little dated because our grandmothers and mothers sing its praises, but there is value in listening to the beauty wisdom of our elders. Ponds is a firm favourite across Europe and in the beauty world for a reason. It works a charm. Essentially the process with Ponds is applying a super moisturizing cold cream, massaging well into the face and then wiping off with a warm washcloth. Voila! Super soft, clean skin. Tried and tested for generations certainly has its merits.

8. Nivea Visage Refreshing Facial Wash Gel $8.95

This cleanser is best for normal or combination skin as it is not a formula designed for fighting blemishes or ultra moisturizing. Nonetheless it is an affordable cleanser that does its job well and leaves you feeling fresh and clean all day long. The cleanser is enriched with lotus extract and vitamins which are also fantastic for your skin.

9. Basis Cleanser Clean Face Wash $6.41

This product is 100% oil free and soap free. It is a gel that gentle foams to wash away makeup, dirt and irritants. Botanicals clean and clarify- mint, lemongrass and chamomile all work together to give your skin a lovely glow. This is good for normal to oily skin.

This is great for someone who gets breakouts or acne but finds that usual products dry out your skin (like mine). This cleanser leaves your face clean and clear but ensures your skin is still hydrated.

10. Simple Facial Cleanser Purifying Lotion $10.00

I use Simple for all sorts of things, especially their makeup removing wipes because they are so affordable. This cleanser is a blend that is intended to cleanse drier skin and to help keep it smooth and softened. This is also great for someone with very sensitive skin.

The formula contains Pro-Vitamin B5, Bisabolol and Allantoin, which all help to soften and gently cleanse the skin. Dermatologically tested and approved.

I’ve been using Biore’s Warming Blackhead cleanser lately, which sounds very similar to the pore unclogging scrub. I love it, works so well.

I’ve used the Biore one, and am using the Cetaphil and Dove exfoliator right now! It’s so good!

  • Reply MsKimo Sunday 10th June, 2012 at 5:17 pm

The Biore one irritates my skin, the Dove one’s great and so is the Neutrogena.
The Cetaphil one is too gentle (doesn’t feel like my skin is properly cleansed) and Palmers is good but the smell is awful!

Overall, nice list, I want to now try the Basis and Philosphy cleansers. 🙂

Great recommendations – I like neutrogena, and also nivea, but I also feel that garnier should have been on this list.

  • Reply ragdollbaby Sunday 10th June, 2012 at 3:12 pm

Oh, I didn’t realise that the Philosophy cleanser would be so inexpensive. Love the Neutrogena one – keep it in the shower and it really does a good job at removing makeup.
