Sukin Organics Protein Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Recently I’ve been really hopping on board with the organic cosmetics movement so when a work friend of mine introduced me to Sukin Organics (3 for the price of 2 at Priceline right now!) I jumped on the opportunity to give them a go.

They retail for $11.99/500ml and are paraben and SLS free. Both come in a sturdy plastic bottle with a pump, there are smaller sizes available- $7.99 for 300ml I believe. These smell very organic, quite herbal-ish and the scent is pretty strong. It doesn’t bother me too much but if you are against scented products this might be a bit much.

Because they are free of the plethora of chemicals in ordinary hair products, the shampoo doesn’t lather particularly well which doesn’t give you hair that instant squeaky clean feeling. However, after my hair dried I could definitely see the results of switching from regular to organic shampoo/conditioner.

Firstly my hair felt much lighter- I opted for the protein shampoo and conditioner for fine hair instead of the clarifying set for normal hair. There is hardly any build-up left behind by these products. Volume wise, I’d say that it doesn’t work miracles but it does give noticeable volume which lasts a fair way through the day. The best thing about these products has to be the condition that it leaves your hair. My hair felt a lot softer and the ends weren’t as dry as they would have been after washing with regular shampoo.

Overall I would say that I would repurchase this product purely for the way it makes my hair feel so healthy afterwards. What do you guys think about organic hair products? Have you tried any that have impressed you? Let me know!

Xx Jen

Sukin products are ALL ace – can’t go past them for quality, results and price. And with a vegan husband he’s happy too!

Sounds interesting, I might check them out – thanks for posting! About the lather bit – definitely, you’ll notice that with a lot of organic, chemical free products (soap, shampoo, cleaners etc) because that lather isn’t really soap it’s just an ingredient added to commercial products for the effect. It’s like adding colours to food e.g. Orange to carrot products and Green to pea products – it’s a psychological/consumer factor that’s been built into advertising for a long while. At the same time though, you’ll also find a lot of organic products that do lather because of the way they use ingredients like coconut oil or bicarbonate of soda.

I’d be interested to put these up against my current choice: MooGoo S&C, which I use as they are all natural, paraben free etc. I have a highly sensitive scalp and so always on the hunt for the best S&C that will treat my hair but not ravage my scalp – a fine line to tread I’ve found!
