Beauty Review: Skinceuticals, StriVectin & Dermalogica

Beauty and cosmetics megastore RY.com.au recently invited me to “tackle my biggest beauty concern.” So naturally, I went on the wrinkle attack! I was recommended to try a targeted product for eyes (Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm), a high-powered cosmeceutical serum (Strivectin Tightening Face Serum) and a super-charged moisturiser (Skinceuticals Renew Overnight Dry). Here’s what I thought:

Skinceuticals Renew Overnight Dry

Available from RY.com.au $78.75

Pros – The texture and feel of this Skinceuticals moisturiser is great. It has a light “buttery” feel upon application yet leaves zero oily residue. It is also very low in fragrance which is great for bedtime. I have very dry skin and I found the product moisturised my skin well over a long period of hours. It contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids which exfoliate (noticeable difference). I woke up with great looking, refreshed and smooth skin every time, with no dryness.

Certainly no breakouts or problems with this product at all! I applied it to my eyes a couple of times (which you are probably NOT supposed to do), and there were no adverse reactions. Overall, the anti-ageing / skin-texture benefits were definitely visible, which in my experience go above and beyond what you’ll get with a standard moisturiser.

Cons – The price! Would also be great to see this product in a tube or airless pump rather than an open jar.

Strivectin-TL Tightening Face Serum

Available from RY.com.au $88.20

Pros – A little goes a long way which is great! It has a fresh, light lemony smell which I love. Glides on easily and instantly tautens skin all over the face and neck. A radiant and smooth finish to the skin instantly. I used this only of an evening before bed, and noticed a firm and refreshed look upon waking in the morning. This is a product that feels like it is working straight away. I also occasionally tested this close to the eye (ie crows feet territory) and there were adverse reactions.

Cons – I found it hard to use this product immediately before a moisturiser – the two seemingly did not mix, leaving white balls of product all over my face. This could be my application method (using too much? the wrong moisturiser?) but regardless once I blended the two together, the benefits were still visible come morning. I would not let this put anyone off an otherwise great product.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm Eye Creme:

Available from Ry.com.au $59.50

Pros – Comes in a (generously-sized) soft tube. Tube format is my preference for increased hygeine, the product maintains freshness, and there is very little waste. This product is light and would be great for those with oiler skin. It has a beautiful consistency that glides on, leaving an amazingly silky feel all over the eye area which feels great. The product works very well as a base for makeup, and you can get away without a primer. The skin around my eyes felt soft and supple after application. Also noticed a fresh raspberry smell!

Cons – This product is probably a little TOO light for me: I felt it wasn’t quite oily and moisturising enough and my eye area did dry out again after a few hours. Whilst the skin around the eye was instantly revived upon application, I couldn’t say that I noticed a huge improvement in the wrinkles or tone of the skin more broadly. It may be best suited to younger users or those with naturally oiler skin.

I tend to go for skinceuticals as I’m getting older, as I feel I do need the big guns to deal with mid life ageing concerns. Dermalogica is a brilliant brand

Know how you feel @lindaves – you really want to feel like you’re giving yourself the best shot! Its a shame we often don’t have that sensation from using natural products 🙁
