As a clumsy gal, white outfits generally give me a bit of fear before I don them. I always recall an early high-school moment when I, sporting my brand new white Ralph Lauren shirt on a mufti day spilled an ENTIRE cup of coffee on it just before school started. Needless to say…I was devastated.
But the thing about white, and particularly white on white, the hot off the runways and street style trend, is that it is undeniably chic and oozes a enigmatic confidence. It’s as if the girl wearing it is daring you to spill your glass of red wine on her…and she simply doesn’t care.
The crisp, clean quality of a white on white look is just at home on the likes of street style stars like Elin Kling and Suzie Bubble as it is on the runways. A very simple way to emulate this look in a way that is wearable day to day is a white short suit with a collared shirt underneath, or if you are more daring you could opt for a white wide legged pant and a statement top to match.
The trickiest part for me is finding matching whites. Matching an ivory jacket with true white pants ends up making the ivory look “dirty” regardless of how many times you have dry cleaned it!
This was one of the hottest looks spotted on the Spring Summer 2013/14 runways at MBFWA and indeed on the international runways earlier this year, and we can’t wait for some of our favourite white on white looks from the likes of Ginger & Smart, Bec and Bridge, Manning Cartell and Ellery to drop into stores later this year!
If you want to push this trend further you could pair it with neutral, simple accessories like an elegant pair of black pumps to contrast the effect of the white, and to emphasise the minimalist feel of the look. Alternatively, go all out in white head to toe and watch heads turn as you tempt fate!

All white…not for me
Dont mind the shorts but far too much white for my fair skin
With white, I usually go for dresses and blouses.
I love white on white!
White with small kids is too scary for me…
I love it. White is my colour. My wardrobe is full of white blouses so this is definitely for me.
looks great but not for me
looks fab, you just have to be care when out and not eat, but always looks so fresh
I know all too well the spilling of things, usually red and hard to get out – e.g. pasta sauce or red wine, on white items. I don’t ever spill on black – not sure if I could stay clean long enough for it to look good.
The shorts and top look ok, the others look like Too Much white
Too much white
