Former creative director of Balenciaga Nicolas Ghesquière, has been appointed artistic director of womenswear at Louis Vuittonafter Marc Jacobs stepped down from the helm.
After months of internet and indusrty speculation as to who would succeed Jacobs rumours swirled following Ghesquière’s departure from the fashion house that he was responsible for making one of the most covetable labels to date.
Alexander Wang has since replaced Ghesquière at Balenciaga and LVMH has just announced thisthat they have confirmed Ghesquière’s appointment in a statement: “ [Ghesquière is] a modern creative vision to the House’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”
Says Ghesquière, “Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great Maison. We share common values and a vision. I can’t wait to join the team. Together we will build the future of the brand while preserving its precious heritage,”.
His first collection for LV is set to debut in March of next year for Fashion Week.
