BWA Chats To: LIFEwithBIRD

We chat to the delightful duo Nick and Bridget behind Australian fashion fixture  LIFEwithBIRD.

First of all, for those who dont know, tell us a little about the LIFEwithBIRD journey?

It’s been an amazing ride. Bridget and I almost never met. Luckily the stars were aligned. Naivety and persistence paved the way from pattern making on the kitchen bench and packing orders in the bedroom to having an incredible team around us with six boutiques and stockists all across Australia and the rest of the world. What a ride it’s been!!!

Tell us about the launch of your new store?

It’s all about our community and bringing everyone together for a one-off event. We will be styling outfits and entire Summer wardrobes. Perfect for the New Years Party Season. We’ve teamed up with ‘Capi’ and will have their Summery Bubbly Beverages and we’re fortunate to have the new South Yarra Patisserie, ‘A La Folie’ which will be serving their signature hand made French Macarons.

What was your inspiration for the aesthetic of the store?

This store see’s the interior aesthetic become a little more sophisticated. There is more contrasts in texture and tone. We’ve introduced Matt Blacks and Deep Charcoals, which are off set by Carrera Marble, Mirrored finishes and a beautiful geometric tiled floor. There are huge floor to ceiling white linen curtains that drape the change rooms and divide the middle of the store. It’s really come together and blends our inspiration of Gallery & Industrial Apartment perfectly.

Who or what insprires you creatively?

Bridget and I really come from different angles. I love construction and form and am really heavily influenced by architecture and the mechanics of things. I’m not overly inspired by anyone particular. I certainly admire so many people and definitely find inspiration in their work. A few of my favourites include Corbusier, Richard Neutra & Yohji.

Key pieces from the collection for this season?

The Animal talk Print has had a phenomenal repsonse with killer dresses; namely the ‘Ruby Tuesday’ and ‘Fatlism’ and the oversized ‘Late Night Tales’ shirt all becoming must haves. We’ve found that the mix of the black and white prints which are off set with the white detailing has been highly sought after. Also the Busted dress in the Soundwave Print with it’s angled layered look has been hugely popular.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

The Beach, The BBQ……and zzzzzzz’s

Any exciting holiday plans?

It’s all about family over the xmas break and catching up with the nieces and going down the coast. Birds family is down on the Mornington Peninsula and my family is down the other side on the Bellarine Peninsula, so we find ourselves going bi-coastal over the summer period. It’s heaven.
