Welcoming out wonderful guest editor Margaret from Shine By Three who will be giving us all her top tips on savvy style for January (plus a sneak peek at New York!).Â
Why hello there, blog-loving BWA-readers!
It’s my absolute pleasure to be guest-editing for the entirety of this month. After discussing at length what the overarching theme should be for this January’s mischief, we settled on the area of (shall we call it) ‘savvy’ style.
What I’m really saying is that I’m a full-time student with limited income and an upbringing that says no to buying anything that I don’t absolutely need to continue breathing – though Dion Lee does sometimes make me feel a bit like that… and life goes on.
As much as I would like to be roaming the globe with Louis Vuitton monogramed chests (don’t worry – I don’t actually), I do just end up handing that dress back to the salesperson, lying that I’ll come back because <insert excuse that makes you sound super wealthy> and dreaming about said dress for the next month and a half.
This was fine when I was a lot more into conspicuous vintage, girly florals, easy frocks with the same belt. Every. Day. But over the past year, the local industry has educated me in fabrics, in cuts, and it’s impossibly difficult to find beautifully tailored pieces that won’t bust my lunch-budget for the remainder of the year.
And so, here I am. To share my best tips with you all, so that next time someone complains about not being able to afford to be stylish, you can have a giggle and walk away.
Looking forward to it, pretties!
Love,
Marg.
P.S. There was actually a point to that photo of me in a ridiculous number of sequins – i.e. that the dress only costed something like $30 from In Love With FashionÂ
P.P.S. later in January I’ll be headed to NYC, so I can’t wait to share sneaky shopping skills with you from there!
