How To Discover Your Fragrance Personality

Scent is an extremely powerful sense, and just as important to our overall sense of style as the clothes we wear or make up we apply.

It can affect our mood, our confidence, and it can even affect what people associate us with! Did you know there are four fragrance groups, and with them four distinct personalities?

We chatted with fragrance expert and founder of ‘The Powder Room’ Samantha Taylor to get the low-down on fragrance families!

There are four main fragrance families, floral, oriental, woody and citrus.  There are also 15 sub families which include fougére, chypre and aromatic among others.

The four fragrance families have a distinct personality so you can chose who you want to be when you select your perfume each day, or match your fragrance to your outfit.

Samantha often draws comparisons to the four ladies from Sex and the City to help people remember the personality traits associated with the different fragrance families.

1. Floral

Florals can be soft and romantic, green and fresh or sweet and innocent. They are very feminine and work well with pastels, floral prints or nude tones. Floral fragrances perfectly suit Charlotte as she is pretty and feminine, and often wore gorgeous pastel hues.

2. Oriental

Every women should own a seduction perfume and orientals fit the bill perfectly as they are sensuous and exotic. Chose a spicy and seductive perfume when you want to unleash your inner seductress and channel Samantha. Body con dresses teamed with killer high heels and a glossy hair that is tossed over one shoulder are the perfect accessories to a sultry oriental.

3. Wood

Down to earth and straight forward, woody types are very grounded and tell it like it is. Fiercely loyal, just like Miranda, earthy tones and auburn hair suit rich woody fragrances.

4. Citrus

Bright and carefree, citrus fragrances represent the side of our personality that is not afraid to take risks. Carrie loved bright colours and wasn’t afraid to stand out in the crowd.

I think I’m a cross between a floral and citrus. It all depends on my mood that day.
