Since this is the month of Vintage I talked with three Sydney vintage sellers turned bloggers about their love for all things vintage!
Re:New Vintage
Hey, whats your name?
Hi, I’m Brooke and I’m currently living in, and loving, Sydney!
What’s your store name and blog name?
I run Re:new Vintage, and write a blog of the same name here.
When did your love for vintage begin and how long after did you start your store?
What seems like a lifetime ago I lived in a little town along the coast in QLD and (for lack of anything much else to do) I’d spend hours sifting through random op shops and always find amazing little surprises. I think that might have been when the seed was planted because ever since I haven’t been able to pass an op shop without going in for fear of missing out on the next one-off, never-to-be-repeated find! From this morphed re:new, 3 years ago now, it’s the perfect way to feed my love of the hunt!
How’d you get into blogging?
I started blogging as an addition to the store; in the beginning I had so many friends saying how much they loved the vintage stuff I was listing but could never imagine themselves wearing it, so I started blogging to demonstrate how I might wear some of my favourites. It’s a fun bonus gig, I like playing dress ups!
What’s your style?
My personal style is so laid-back and relaxed, 90% of the time I am without a doubt a ‘jeans-and-T’ kind of girl. But it’s pretty easy to throw in a bit of a vintage twist when you have a whole store full of stock to pick from, it’s a super-sized wardrobe extension!
Red Mera Vintage
Hey, whats your name?
Shikha Sahay and I live in Sydney.
What’s your store name and blog name?
Red Mera Vintage and my blog is of the same name here.
When did your love for vintage begin and how long after did you start your store?
My obsession for vintage began when I was in high school and I’ve always wanted to be my own boss so in June 2010 I decided to create a store and make a living out of my addiction.
How’d you get into blogging?
I started blogging when I started my store, it’s filled with daily musings and my personal style.
How would you describe your style?
I’d say I have an eclectic sense of style, I adore beautiful vintage fabrics and textures and wearing them in a more contemporary style. I’m almost always dressed head to ankle in vintage. I have a big love for shoes, so my outfits are usually completed with my newest shoe score.
Hey, whats your name?
Nicole Warne and I live on the Central Coast in NSW.
What’s your store name and blog name?
I own an online vintage boutique and fashion blog called Gary Pepper Vintage.
When did your love for vintage begin and how long after did you start your store?
I started my love affair with vintage when I was in high school. As cliche as it sounds it was a way for me to express my individualism. I spent my early high school years being bullied for being different or ‘weird’ and never really quite fitted in. As soon as I became comfortable with myself and who I was is when people started paying attention. It was 6 years later that I launched Gary Pepper Vintage and now being ‘different’ is what my brand is known for. It’s strange how the world works sometimes.
How’d you get into blogging?
I started blogging the very same day I opened my store. I wanted to document this exciting new chapter in my life but never anticipated it to become as personal as it has. Now, the store and blog go hand in hand together and are as important as each other.
What’s your style?
I’ve always mixed my vintage pieces with high end designers to give my look a modern twist. I like playing with colours, textures, lengths and prints, which is what vintage is perfect for. There is such a wide variety when it comes to vintage and I never leave the house without a vintage or thrifted piece incorporated into my outfit. I feel vintage is such an important part of me that If I’m not wearing a vintage piece at all times I’m not really myself.
