The 2002 Oscars were a seminal moment for Lebanese couturier Elie Saab.

Busy establishing his couture house as the label of choice for Middle Eastern high-society since 1982, no one in the west had so much as heard of the talented designer the night Halle Berry accepted her Best Actress award for Monster’s Ball wearing one of his gowns.

Fast forward 13 years: Not only has Elie Saab become a pre-eminent name in the high-stakes world of the Hollywood red carpet, his creations have become synonymous with the glitz and glamour of the industry. No red carpet occasion arises where his creations aren’t stealing the show.

Now much-loved by the Hollywood AAA-list, these actresses favour Saab’s opulent, jaw-dropping designs for the attention and fanfare they generate. (And let’s face it, they’re super-flattering!)

According to VOGUE: ‘His overtly feminine aesthetic and romantic crystal-encrusted gowns initially attracted princesses, and later, film stars who were enamoured with his Middle Eastern detailing and European sensibility.”

Saab states “I was born with this passion of creating and making dresses and was always surrounded by beautiful women, from my sisters to neighbours,” he has said, “so the desire to dress them and make them look elegant was my constant inspiration.”
