If you haven’t heard of Jamie Ashkar yet, you will have by the end of next week. Set to become one of the hottest rising stars in the Australian Fashion industry, we had a quick chat to Jamie pre-Fashion Week to see what is in store.
What can we expect from Jamie Ashkar at MBFWA?
This season it’s all about soft meeting hard, masculine meets feminine .A fusion of a soft colour palate, mixed with a pop of bright. Print this season is soft, modern and fresh, really representing summer in Aus. Detail in construction is evident this season, with a twist in new fabrications and textile development. Jamie Ashkar Spring/Summer 2013/14 is all about immolating the modern women.
What inspires you creatively?
I couldn’t single out one thing that inspires me creatively, everything I’m exposed on a daily basis is inspiring, and most importantly what you take from it and then how you apply it.
Who is the Jamie Ashkar girl?
The Jamie Ashkar girl, is a strong and confident women, who has an eye for detail and loves to stand out.
How did you get started in the Fashion Industry?
I was a former interior designer and made the switch. I studied for 2 years then decided I would pursue my own label.
What are you looking forward to most at FW?
The most I’m looking forward to about fashion week is probably showing a collection for the first time on the Australian catwalk, to be able to show a collection in front of so many respected delegates is really exciting.
What can we expect from Jamie Ashkar in 2013?
You can expect new modern takes on classic techniques, great new textile innovation and exciting new silhouettes.
What is entailed in your fashion week prep?
There a lot of development on new runway pieces, production and PR. Its quite an intense few months leading up, as selling season crosses over, so it can get a little chaotic.
