BWA chats to the affable, lovable David Babaii about all things hair and life in the industry.
What inspired you to get into the beauty industry?
My mother. She was a legendary hairstylist and it was only natural that I follow in her footsteps.
Who is the person you take inspiration from most?
To this day it is still my mother – such an extraordinary woman!
What is your number one “must do” when caring for your hair?
Regular “dusting” cuts or trims, no longer than 6 weeks apart! Use products that are free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals and animal products, such as my hair care and styling range!
We are coming into winter- what are your tips to looking after your hair in the chilly season?
In winter the cold will make your hair feel extra dry! Use a good treatment to protect your hair such as my Miracle Oil Hair Elixir. When its cold, you put on a jumper or a coat, and you need to do the same with your hair to keep it nourished and protect it against damage. The Miracle Oil will keep in the moisture and keep your hair gloriously healthy.
Top hair trends for 2012?
Dramatic fringes, cascading layers – experiment with different styles, but make sure they suit your face shape.
Also the boho look is so hot – think sexy messy and tussled hair!
What is your biggest hair “no-no”?
Over-processed, over peroxided hair!
You are obviously very passionate about your eco footprint- what are some ways we can all reduce our environmental impact when using beauty products?
Use products that are natural and are free of sulfates, parabens and petrochemicals. Make sure they are not tested on animals! Aways recycle your bottles. It’s about making a conscious effort.
What do we have to look forward to from David Babaii in 2012?
I’ve got an amazing line of new products coming out – watch this space!
Finally if you could have breakfast with anyone alive or dead, who would it be and why?
Sir Isaac Newton and Monet. Newton, to get into his head and find out what the hell was going on in there. Monet to see what he saw for just one minute!
