It seems that not a day passes without a new beauty product hitting the market, often with much fanfare and promises aplenty.
Online beauty and skincare e-tailer Activeskin sure knows a thing or two about the industry (they are one of Australia’s largest websites, stocking over 60 brands and a whopping 5000 products after all!) The company recently invited me to review their store and some of their leading ranges (how could I say no?) however, with so many products to choose from deciding WHAT to review was actually the hard part!
To simplify, I decided to skip the gimmicks, instead taking a browse through Activeskin’s extensive Clinique range. I settled on three of Clinique’s “classics” that I had used before but was keen to try again.
This is what I looked at:
Clinique Moisture Surge
I remembered using this product some years ago, and was glad to be giving it another try. The Clinique Moisture Surge is a very lightweight, gel-style moisturizer that packs a lot of hydration. The product feels very light and velvety on the skin, with no oily feel whatsoever. It’s possible to use this product two ways: as a regular moisturizer, or as an intensive masque. Both work great for my skin, which is quite dry. As a masque you can simply apply a heavier layer onto the face, let it absorb as much as possible, then dab the excess off with a tissue. This would be a great option for anyone with sensitive skin or those that need hydration without oily-heaviness.
Clinique High Impact Mascara
I absolutely love this mascara, and I first used it some years ago also as a mini which came in a Clinique Gift Pack. I remember the day the little mini ran out, and I was quite devastated! What I love about this mascara is it is BLACK – really black. I have no idea how Clinique achieves this degree of pigmentation (and why every other mascara-maker isn’t doing the same), but in my opinion it is a lot more intense than other black mascaras on the market today. It achieves great length and definition across the lashes and it’s definitely not clumpy. This is a classic mascara, without fuss which I would recommend to everyone.
All About Eyes
I’m a firm believer in eye-creams and don’t ever leave the house or apply makeup without using a good quality eye cream first. For a mid-priced option that will last around a year (in my experience), All About Eyes has stuck around on the Clinique best-seller list for a reason. First of all, like most of the Clinique range, it’s lightweight and not at all greasy. It provides a great base for makeup – just enough moisture to soften lines yet not so much that makeup goes sliding! It revitalizes the skin around the eyes and gives a smooth, refreshed appearance. I found All About Eyes was a lifesaver for freshening up before after work events, as I could re-apply the product for an instant refresher before topping up my eye makeup.
SO – be sure to hop over to activeskin.com.au if you are looking for any beauty product – chances are they’ll have it! (They actually have a great beauty blog too which is worth a read – after you’ve finished reading BWA of course!)
