“Oh my GOSH,” a painfully pretty classmate gasped in horror before pointing to my face. “You have HUGE bags under your eyes!”
And that friends, was the last day my face saw the outside world without a generous application of makeup on it. I was thirteen years old.
Kids are cruel but comments like that stick with us forever. And since that very vocal (and very brutal) observation, makeup for me has been all about concealing my flaws. For ten years I’ve desperately tried to hide the dark circles under my eyes, cried out of sheer exasperation from failed attempts at covering my pimples, and spent about a trillion – nay, a zillion – dollars on foundation to cover the redness my poor face is so susceptible too.
And I know I’m not alone in this. How many times have you cancelled on a date or brought yourself to tears because you thought you just didn’t measure up? How many times have you thought “if I just had that new [insert beauty product of choice] I would feel amazing and confident?” Only to feel pretty much as bad as you felt before.
Well Audrey-ites, I vote we put the fun back in beauty. Beauty isn’t about hiding our worst; it’s about showing our best. Beauty should be enjoyable. We should be able to laugh at our beauty fails rather than kick ourselves in the gut with regret. We should be able to dye our hair crazy colours like Katy Perry, or get OTT acrylic nails like Rhianna just for the hell of it. So to do something a little different, I want you to tell me your best and your worst beauty moments. What’s your biggest beauty fail? When did you know that you nailed it? The more outlandish and hilarious, the better. I’ll get us started.
Best: Getting a Zooey fringe. It makes my fivehead look like a forehead and draws attention to my eyes (but away from those dark circles).
Worst: For a DIY beauty article I washed my hair with egg (for shine!). It scrambled in my hair and I was brushing it out for days and days. Yuck.

Tee hee.
so true
Katy Perry is, without a doubt, a metamorphoguise. Her hair color varies so much! I’m just a redhead, without freckles…
Redhead’s are GORGEOUS. Hello Emma Stone!
I got an eyebrow pencil in a set of make up once and decided to use it before going out. Much too dark for my skin/hair colour and I looked ridiculous!
Really enjoyed this article, so well written and fun! Stars like Katy Perry who aren’t afraid to experiment should be a beauty inspiration to the rest of us 🙂
Thanks! And Katy Perry is amaze x
I wish Katy would scrub her face bare!
this color suits her
haha cute
lovin the blue hair
Love the comments about blue eyeliner – I think that this was my first “beauty” purchase, oh and for some reason I used to buy clear mascara from Australis to wear to school…. The things we do & buy…
I remember clear mascara being great for when we weren’t allowed to wear makeup at school (yes, I went to one of “those” schools).
interesting!
Shes amazing
Can relate to the bags under the eyes, have tried concealer, that just gets caught in the wrinkles making you look worse!! Got to love getting old!!
Her fringe is hideous!
Nice Article.
Nicely written
Great article!
<3
lol @ the scrambled egg hair disaster 😛
Love Katy’s change of style!
Lol, love the egg bit. Best beauty moment was realising I did not need make up to beautiful. Worst moment was the fringe I had with my curly hair
Aw I love your best beauty moment.
Katy Perry is pretty and doesn’t need stupid hair to get attention
She is sooo pretty
Worst was vinegar in my hair to make it shiny.like beer, avocado and egg whites it works but the smell doesn’t disappear for days.the result unfortunatly doesn’t outweigh the process
Best would have to be my change from natural brunette to redhead.so much more confidence when I leave the house
Oh my gosh, red hair sounds amazing! x
I still think that Katy Perry can pull of those colours.. even though super weird and wacky haha!
haha i actually love blue hair on her 😀
oh gosh, the egg..
Three years of green eyeliner because I thought I was supposed to… Matched my eyes. At least it wasn’t blue I guess?
I’m embarrassed to say it, buy I did blue eyeliner…(oh the shame)
eeep so did i! still have it with the matching blue eye shadow, maybelline you let me down there.
my biggest beauty faux pas was probably my teenage years of tanning obsession, I’ve now learnt to listen to facts about sun damage and have embraced my pale complexion 🙂
unusual
whatever Katy Perry does, she still looks amazing!
I need a solution to bags under my eyes!!! x
Might do my next article on that!
🙂
Love it! 🙂
she has really nice skin
cute article! i also have terrible bags under my eyes, and would love nothing more than for them to disappear forever! (: x
I used an egg on my hair once (for shine). i liked it 🙂
I missed the memo that you’re not meant to use hot water otherwise it will scramble! Ha!
deep mann love this article
Haha ohhh Katy!
i wish i could pull off coloured locks!
katy perry looks great :p the blue hair suits her
Love how she always changes her looks.
Luckily, I do not have dark circles, but can imagine how you would feel
eccentric
not a fan of the style but love the colour!
best & cheapest trick was that I used to use lemon to help blonden my hair in summer
worst would be using beer in my hair to make it shine – it did but sure does it stink!!!
Love her winged liner!
cutee
Love Katy!
Eww, about the egg scrambling in your hair!!!
cool
interesting…
I love this!
I love how she changes her hair colour all the time. 🙂
I’ll have to think about this – but I like the put the fun back premise!
That girl reallllllly needs to stop dressing like she’s a cartoon.
Lol, after a similar comment (about my bags) I recall standing in front of the mirror & thinking “I can’t wait until I old…read 30 :), and my face catches up to my bags!” …. I was 13 at the time.
Lol too funny…. 😉
haha her and her crazy outfitts
cutee
katy perry is still hjot
sweet article
