One of my favourite exfoliators is a coffee scrub. Maybe its just psycological, but it feels like the caffeine is invigorating in the morning.
In terms of chemicals through, caffeine is actually super useful in combating cellulite, like those pesky thigh areas. Caffeine actually stimulates the dermis (skin) helping with circulation, tightening looser skin and in assisting to reduce and restrict size of fat cells. It’s not a quick fix treatment, but it certainly helps, plus it cleanses your skin at the same time.
There are heaps of these products on the market right now, but if you want to use all natural ingredients plus save a little money- we have a DIY recipe just for you.
Ingredients:
-Fresh unflavored dark roast coffee grounds (You can grab free trade ones at Republica Coffee here.)
-Baking soda
-Brown sugar
-Almond oil
-Peppermint oil
-A Mason jar or something to store it in.
How you make it:
There are actually a few ways you can make this. Some people use just the grounds and some olive oil, but I like to add in the other ingredients for maximum effect.
Mix a cup of the almond oil into your jar along with half a cup of the coffee grounds and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Mix with a spoon until everything is combined.
If you have heard of the DIY sugar scrub, this is a great way to combine the two. You can add about 1/2 cup of brown sugar to the mix (this is a great exfoliant because it is super granulated) plus a tabplespoon of peppermint oil for a beautiful minty fragrance.
At this point the mixture’s consistency will be thick but still wet. You should use this a few times a week to see some improvement in your skin. You can store this mix in the fridge for around ten days (as long as the lid is sealed tightly).
That’s it!
What’s your favourite DIY beauty treatment?
