Bay & Fyfe And The Grand Social Designer Collaboration

One of our favourite scarf labels Bay & Fyfe has teamed up with The Grand Social and designers Emma Mulholland, wonders cease, ToniMay, The Eleventh Hour and Kyla Crozier to create some very special, limited edition pieces which will be up for sale on The Grand Social, with all proceeds going towards the The Ted Noff’s Foundation.

With prints designed by ex-Sneaky Sound System MC turned artist Daimon Downey, Bay and Fyfe presented a dazzling array of luxe scarves to be used in the design process.

The kick off this amazing collaboration, The Grand Social is also giving one lucky person the chance to win the piece of their choice before it goes on sale (check out the competition here).

BWA also chatted to Maryanne, from Wonders Cease about the whole process and took a sneak peek behind the scenes at the campaign shoot, which you can check out below!

Fill us in a little on the wonders cease journey thus far, for those who don’t know.

Emma and I met at college, we worked for other labels first and in 2009 launched wonders cease. We are a boutique label and we are proud to design and manufacture everything locally using beautiful quality fabrics (mostly natural fibres). Our signature is simple, timeless styles with unique details, our runs are small so only a handful of people will own each style.

What inspired you about the print you selected?

The eagle print was our favourite mostly because of the colour palette, we are often drawn to neutrals with a highlight pop colour or 2 for our collections. The base colour is the most beautiful salmon/beige.

Your end product was a beautiful top & culottes set- can you tell us why you felt this worked best with the fabric, print and concept?

We just thought it would be nice to have the separates, we think they look great together but we love our pieces to have versatility so they can easily be paired back with alternative tops or bottoms. We also tried to choose styles that were just simple, great shapes to really let the print do the talking.

How does our end design reflect the wonders cease aesthetic?

Our aesthetic is a blend of feminine yet sport inspired shapes, especially our summer collections – we always have the Australian girl in resort mode in mind. These pieces as a playsuit achieve both those elements, soft and feminine in the look and drape of the outfit, sporty in the details and cut.

Tell us about the design process…how was the design conceived, how long did the process take, where did you look to for inspiration?

The culottes is a winning style of ours which we have done in smaller prints, the top is just a great shape as a canvas and immediately came to mind when we were invited to work on this project. The designs were instant, Em and I have quite a clear and succinct view on these things so we just knew exactly what would work, we each cut a piece and had our sample machinist whip them up so not very long at all. As with all our styles we look for inspiration from our customer and friends and what we ourselves want to wear.

What prompted you to take part in such an interesting initiative?

Mostly Frith’s exuberance!! We love Bay & Fyfe as a brand and we were smitten with Frith’s energy as soon as we met her so were keen to be involved, we love collaborating on projects and we’ve had the chance to do a few so far via our friends at The Grand Social.

Finally, if you could have breakfast with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Muccia Prada, she’s a visionary obviously but I think she’d also be a crazy woman in all the right ways so breakfast would lead to something ridiculously amazing for sure.

So creative! Those clothes initially look innocent but then I notice the jaws of a wolf on it in print! Contrasting and really does bring “little red riding hood’ to my mind.
