Surfing has just got a whole lot more stylish as American designer Alexander Wang, has teamed up with Aussie surf brand Haydenshapes, to create what can only be described as the most chic surfboards we’ve ever seen. If anything is going to make us plunge ourselves into cold water at 5am, these boards are it.
The collaboration with North Shore homeboy, Hayden Cox (of Haydenshapes), is part of the Cage series at Wang’s flagship Soho store in downtown Manhattan. The pair co-developed five high-end surfboards for the installation #thecage22 with a desire to create a visual piece of art that focussed on innovation and authenticity. Images of unique marble slabs were digitally printed onto silk, then onto the award-winning HaydenshapesHyptoKrypto model to make the one-of-a-kind designs.
This is not the first time Wang has veered away from creating clothing to focus his attention on other projects, known for his progressive design aesthetic it makes sense that Wang would produce pieces beyond the realms of fashion. Recently launching the “Objects” collection, which among other items includes a black inflatable pool ring, embossed coasters, and a bottle opener, you can count on Wang to keep things interesting, and achingly sleek (note to self: replace the rainbow coloured pool ring before spring).
While the installation boards aren’t for sale, if you’re a wave rider with a penchant for luxury limited edition versions are available from Haydenshapes for $1250.

Now there’s some hot designer gear I’d love to own!! The bag & shoes are cute too!
Surfing is not my thing (given, I live 400km from the beach), but these boards look really cool.
