Brides are starting to raise the hemlines. The choice of a classic, mid-calf cut is proving to be a popular trend in 2013, as brides opt for a more understated gown. Celebs are following the trend including Natalie Portman – who spotted a ¾ gown at her wedding to Benjamin Millepiede. I also can’t help but love Rachel McAdams’ oh-so adorable short pink Betsey Johnson wedding dress in The Vow.
Designers are offering a variety of choice when it comes to this new trend –sophisticated laces, multilayered skirts and vintage silhouettes. Caroline Herrera’s latest collection on the runway is classic with structure – with high necks and skirts that hold their shape.
Whilst I’m all for tradition – the shorter hemline has a beautiful and unique twist which suits beach, destination, garden and the ever so popular vintage-style weddings. It also allows you to accessories more – lavish out on fancy shoes, pretty lace gloves, and standout headpieces.
Would you consider this trend for your big day?

It just doesn’t seem like a wedding dress if it’s short.
Not a fan. I still believe wedding dresses should be long. Short just doesn’t look right.
Pretty dresses, but I enjoyed the chance to wear something long and a bit fancier than usual.
I think they look stunning! I love this trend because it isn’t always weather appropriate to wear a long, bit, heavy dress!
hmm good for some, but not the traditionalists!
Short dresses have their place but don’t look as nice as long formal ones.
Okay for a less formal wedding perhaps.
Good to see a break away from the traditional. Some nice looks!
Personally I prefer long wedding dresses but I’m sure many could work the shorter ones!
amazing
OMG – It’s “Back to the future” Most of you lovelies are too young to remember short wedding dresses around the late 50’s early 60’s. Prefer classic myself but don’t need a wedding dress.
I like the bottom two, much more elegant.
I like short as well as long. The second one minus the head piece is my pick.
I am not a fan, not as elegant or beautiful as a long flowing dress
Not really liking this trend
Love the summery look
They are nice but a bit casual for a wedding dress, more a great dress for a nice summer lunch
I prefer the traditional long wedding dress!
I must say that although those wedding dresses are really beautiful if I ever choose to get married my dress will be long!
I have to agree they look more like bridesmaid dresses and not formal enough.
a beautiful option for those without the knobbly knees! I really love the way the shoes are seen with this length.
I like long or mid length wedding dresses but am not a fan of short ones as they aren’t glamourous or elegant enough.
i still prefer the traditional look…
they look more like bridesmaid dresses
cute, but doesn’t look so formal though!
such a 50s vibe
