Product Review: Kerastase Elixir Ultime

My hair has always been long, wavy and super-frizzy. For me, conditioner, hair masks and defrizzers are an absolute necessity. So much that I stock up a multitude of these products in the bathroom cabinet just in case, because I fear that I might suddenly run out. And if I ever do, you better send the Mighty Powers to help me, because my hair would suddenly resemble that dirty, tangled mop languishing in your bathroom. Disaster. So when I saw Kerastase’s Elixir Ultime hair treatment available at my local salon, it almost grew legs, walked off the shelf and right into my hands. Yay!

Kerastase Elixir Ultime is a super-luxurious hair product that aims to protect your hair from heat damage, smooth the frizzies, and provide shine and volume without weighing the hair down. The oils featured in the product include camellia, argan, maize and procaxi. So if you are a die-hard fan of the esteemed argan oil, this may be for you!

PRODUCT AND PACKAGING

This product is house in a 125ml, clear, mustard coloured plastic bottle with a lockable pump. Though this product is marketed as an ‘oil’, don’t let that scare you. The main ingredient is cytopentasiloxane, which is pretty much a form of liquid silicone. My hair loves it, because it’s great for defrizzing and adding shine. It’s the only ingredient that will tame my otherwise unruly tresses. This product can be used as a pre-cleanse hair treatment (to be applied prior to shampooing), but I didn’t agree with this – what’s the point of washing this luxe product right down the drain? Instead, this product replaced my anti-frizz products. The fragrance is a strong floral and I didn’t mind it.

APPLICATION

On application, the product is pretty runny and I needed two pumps for my long dry wavy hair. It wasn’t greasy and it didn’t make my hair limp, and after blow-drying, my hair was left ridiculously silky and shiny! It felt nourished and controlled the fly-aways and frizzies. I also used it on dry hair between washes, and it left my hair sleeker and glossier than ever.

OVERALL VERDICT

I adore this decadent hair product. I see this product as ‘hair oxygen’ – if your hair is looking more like straw than silk, the Elixir Ultime will bring back the shine and softness, leaving you constantly fighting the urge to run your fingers through your hair.

PRICE: $49.99 or cheaper if you buy online. Go spoil yourself because you won’t be disappointed! Kerastase sure know how to do luxury.

RATING: 10/10

That sounds really good. My fave product at the moment is the Kérastase Nectar Thermique. Very similar product, but is more of a cream than an oil.

I currently use the Redken argan oil from the all soft range, but this does sound delightful.
