Ever since I was a little girl, all I wanted was a canopy bed. I’m pretty sure all little kids did, with our imaginations running into overdrive, it was the perfect starting point for all sorts of adventures.
I think in every grown up there is much of our inner child rearing to be set free and one of the biggest examples of that is the grown up canopy bed.
This is the next thing on my DIY to-do list so I thought I would share with you my inspirations and tips I have picked up along the way to handcraft your own canopy bed.
Some ideas for DIY canopy beds:
- Use odd bits lying around to create a boho, eclectic feel. Think fairy lights, different fabrics, rugs and lanterns.
- If you have any visible beams or piping, tie swathes of fabric from Lincraft or Spotlight to them and arrange to tumble down around your bed.
- Think outside the box. Why not try curtain rods screwed to the ceiling to hang fabric off. Or be different and try tree branches for a natural look. You could even get stuck into some DIY wood workings? Here’s an easy guide for beginners.
- One of the simplest ones is to get a hula hoop, cover it in material like ribbon and then sew your canopy to that. This is really easy to do and pretty simple to mount from the ceiling.

(Ok so, you can cheat with this one, because it’s available at Urban Outfitters)

Love the fairy lights, so romantic <3
Looks amazing especially the one with the lights but how safe is it
I would have a good night sleep every night with these beds.
I would so like a canopy bed. Those fairy lights are magical!
