Dion Lee is one of the rare graduates of Australian fashion that is set to become an international fixture in coming years. With the backing of the Cue group, Lee has been given the nod to do just what he does best, and that is design.
Resort 2014 from Dion Lee is quite possible our favourite collection from the fashion wunderkind yet. Tailoring is beautifully thought out, the palette is seamless and speaks of a designer whose talent is well beyond his years.
Lee drew inspiration for the collection from Oil and Water, two ordinary substances that are each others ying and yang. A heavy mass of jet black oil against the fluidity and weightlessness of water. The collection examines this relationship with things like ‘Dry/Wet’ and ‘Natural/Synthetic’.
The collection features micro neoprene, double-bonded satin and patterned rubber in black, white, cobalt, orange and pastel pink, the pieces speak of an interesting idea, that while oil and water may not mix they can certainly exist in perfect symbiosis.
