BWA Chats To: Susie Barnes, Recipe To Riches

We chat to the delightful Susie Barnes, who you can spot tonight on Recipe To Riches, Channel 10 at 7:30pm AEST to find out how her journey ends!

How did your journey come about?

I auditioned for Recipe to Riches because I loved the concept of the show. It was all about the story behind the recipe. The recipe I cooked was my Mothers but I have changed it over the years.

My Mother had died 3 months beforehand and I thought what a lovely thing to do to honour her memory by cooking one of dishes that we all loved as children and that my family, friends and children adore!

I have been cooking it for years and it is an all time favourite with everyone!

What do you love about food?

I love eating but I especially love fresh ingredients. I find the process of cooking extremely relaxing and creative.

What is your earliest food memory?

My father cooking fish and crabs straight out of the Maroochy River that he caught himself. He also did a mean coddled egg!

How did your place on the show come to fruition?

I cooked Ox tail stew and it is unbelievably delicious! I guess my dish spoke for itself!

Can you give us a little taster of what we can expect from your episode?

The producers had fun with me as not everything went to plan! I’m not very good at Maths! But I did have a lot of fun!

What are your top three tips to creating meals at home?

Always use fresh ingredients.
Always have something green.
Always make the dish attractive and put a lot of love into it!

Finally if you could have breakfast with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Mmm….hard one…so many….

Margaret Fulton, because her recipe book was the first I ever owned and I think she influenced thousands of home cooks. I’d like to say thank-you to her! Her books are my “go to” book when I need an old favourite. I have hundreds of recipe books but I still use many of hers! Also George Clooney…..because I think he is gorgeous!!

Make sure you watch Recipe to Riches tonight (29th October) at 7:30 pm AEST to catch Susie!
