What inspired the birth of your brand?

It has always been a goal of mine to own my own label. I originally planned to design jewellery (and still am!) but realised whilst living in Tokyo that the ease and necessity of bags is universal and timeless. The idea began to grow as I continued to travel. After six weeks in Bali, the ideas, inspiration and passion for this label began to tumble out, and Sophi Odling was born.

What inspires you creatively?

Travelling, of course! I love Bali in particular – as soon as I set foot there the ideas just begin to flow endlessly. I am also constantly inspired by music, my surroundings, and a tranquil peace of mind.

What does style mean to you?

Style is unique and carefully placed. You can’t buy it and not everyone gets it right! Getting the right combination is absolutely vital –  it doesn’t matter how plain or quirky. The options are endless thought, and that’s what makes it so fun and intriguing.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

All sorts of things! I remember wanting to be a marine biologist because I loved animals and marine life. Later I wanted to be a lawyer, as I was inspired by my father and all the prestige and respect he earned in his job – I really admired that. he managed to build a company empire that continued the family name, one that is full of rich and amazing history. I still endeavour to do that with my own label.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

I’m all about stunning, unique and eye-catching designs. I love colour and it shows throughout my collections. I also pay attention to every detail – it is the smallest elements that elevate an item from ‘normal’ to ‘exceptional’ and luxurious.

If you could have breakfast with anyone alive or dead, who would it be?

My boyfriend! He makes my world go around. But I would also love to have a chat with Vivienne Westwood. She is a fascinating designer and I would love to see how her world works.

Must have item?

An amazing leather handbag! One that is both functional and stylish – it’s the best way to amp up an outfit. Some supersoft, luxurious boots are also a must-have.
