Audrey Women: Rebel Wilson

How do we count the ways we love Rebel Wilson? A total enigma in the facetious world of Hollywood, her unqiue outlook on her looks and life can definitely be attributed with some of her success.

Shot for the cover of New York Magazine by Robert Maxwell, Rebel Wilson has cemented her success across the sea…no small feat for a girl whose humble beginnings began with Fat Pizza.

The shoot and accompanying interview really gives some insight into who Wilson really is, as opposed to the caricaturish and always hilarious persona that we see in interviews and on chat shows.

Says Maxwell of Rebel on set, “When Rebel got on set, after the first shot, she turned around and said, ‘I’ve never felt so beautiful in my life.’ And I knew we were going to have a good day.”

Rebel has had to fight off a myriad of preconceived notions about her size and body image. When approving wardrobe for her new sitcom “Super Fun Night” the wardrobe and produces couldn’t understand why Rebel didn’t want to wear flattering clothing.

“In the pilot, I was deliberately wearing a very tight white dress with horrible crisscross black stripes that is way too short, and I’m holding a clutch purse that is so tiny that it accentuates my size…the women from wardrobe are lovely, but they don’t get that I want to dress as Kimmie, and Kimmie does not have the best taste. The girls in the show are at the bottom of the social pole, and it’s hard to communicate that to the network. It’s important they understand that comedy is not about looking good.”

It is this, combined with her mission in life to inspire other young women that makes her an Audrey-worthy woman.

She carries around a post-it note in her wallet after becoming frustrated with the industry at large and the portrayal of women. She penned “The bigger purpose in all of this, is to inspire girls who don’t think they’re socially all that—who don’t think they’re pretty and popular. To let them know they can have fun and exciting lives.”

Amen to that. Read the full interview HERE, it’s well worth it.
