Combination skin can be a total pain to cater to, so finding the right products that work for both dry and oily skin is quite a feat. After a bit of research and a lot of product recommendations from friends with a multiplicity of skin types, I have chosen five products that work for most of these skin types.
1. Trillogy Rosehip Oil Antioxidant + $29.95 for 30ml
A cult beauty favourite, Trilogy brand rosehip oil has been a staple item in beauty routines since its release. For those reluctant to use facial oils in fear of clogging pores or aggravating sensitive, acne prone skin- this product is really something else. The oil is comprised of organic ingredients including nourishing fatty acids, Omega 3 and 6, from rosehip and cranberry. It applies lightly and dries down to a smooth shine-free finish. The oil is a multipurpose product and can be used to reduce fine lines and discolouration, as a moisturiser, to shrink pores and to fade scars. Rosehip oil is great for all skin-types, having moisturising properties for dry skin and a mattifying effect on oily skin.
2. Dermalogica Active Moist Facial Moisturiser $43.50 for 30ml
Dermalogica Active Moist consists of a range of skin-boosting ingredients that repair while moisturising. The formula is oil-free and also free of any artificial fragrances or colours. It contains Silk Amino Acids as well as a number of plant extracts and natural botanical astringents of lemon, cucumber and burdock. Though formulated for oily skin, it moisturises dry patches just as well, the Silk Amino Acids helping the lotion glide on smoothly. The consistency is quite thin but not runny and absorbs in to skin instantly.
3. Shiseido Benefiance Enriched Balancing Softener $59.95 for 150ml
This toner is part of the Benefiance Shiseido range. It has a combination of moisturising ingredients that don’t dry out the skin like most toners tend to. Despite this, it doesn’t aggravate oily skin or leave any residue after use and successfully rids the skin of any dirt or excess oils. It contains thyme to aid anti-aging properties and help block out harmful UVB rays that cause wrinkles. Use straight after cleansing for best results.
4. Malin + Goetz Rice Bran Eye Moisturiser $42 for 15ml
The Rice Bran Eye Moisturiser by Malin + Goetz is a fast absorbing serum that works wonders on dryness and fine lines around the eyes! I kid you not, I noticed a difference after using this overnight. This is great for the sensitive skin around the eyes because of the natural ingredients and the rich texture that doesn’t sit on top of the skin but rather sinks in nicely. Added Protein Amino Acids helps smooth out the skin around the eyes and reduces puffiness and dark circles.
5. Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser $95 for 100ml
Another favourite in the beauty world, Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturiser is a fantastic alternative to foundation for those who prefer not to wear full coverage. It wears flawlessly and works well as a base or as a colour tint to even out skin-tone. It comes in a decent range of colours as well as a regular formula (with oils). It glides over the skin and creates a natural-looking canvas for makeup without irritating skin or settling into lines. Laura Mercier’s formula is well renowned for being reparative as well as a great foundation alternative, making it both skincare and makeup.

Hi, I’m finding it difficult these days to find products that work for my skin. It’s combination and sensitive. As if the cold Winter winds aren’t enough to deal with, I also am going through Peri-menopause. The hot flashes are horrible and the night sweats are too. These are offset by cold shivers. Lots of fun (not)!! I might give the Rosehip Oil a try and see if that settles my skin down.
Thanx for your marvelous suggestions. xoxo
