New York Minute – NYFW Spring 2015 Wrap Up

As always, all eyes were on the Spring 2015 RTW shows (and streets) in New York this past week. Given the sheer breadth of designers showing, no one left “empty-handed” with all facets of fashion-critic and consumer well catered for. No single major trend or theme emerged, it was an easy to digest selection that reflected the location, the customer and the times. We saw the usual uptown ladylike looks from Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Altuzarra, Wu, a good measure of futurism via Marc Jacobs and Wang, and a heavy dose of 90’s-esque minimalism from just about everyone else.

RUNWAY:

ABOVE: 4 of my personal favourites from the week: Ralph Lauren, Wang, Altuzarra, Del Pozo.

Minimalistic yet sophisticated looks from Marc Jacobs, Wu, Tome and Zac Posen

BEAUTY:

The good news is, if you’re a fairly low-maintenance person when it comes to wearing makeup, then you’re in luck. The season was one filled with low / no makeup looks – very understated, very natural, very fresh and clean. Hair was largely slicked back or left natural (and by natural we mean natural “looking” not necessarily the result of waking up that way!) Very few hair looks seemed to require an  army of heat tools to achieve (which was probably a welcome relief to everyone involved considering the sweltering temperatures throughout the week).

A couple of standout makeup trends this season were: the bold eye line (neon or Cleopatra black), facial adornments (eyebrow rings, glitter and temporary tattoos), and literally NO makeup at all (as was the case at Marc Jacobs.) Shag haircuts seem to be the new transition hairstyle for everyone growing out last season’s wavy bob.

The 4 main beauty looks to come out of the shows: Bold shadows and lines, face adornment (don’t try this at home!), no makeup, and slicked back hair.

STREET STYLE

By the looks of it, as much action was happening on the streets as on the runways, with a veritable kaleidoscope of colours and looks keeping the fashion observers satiated (at least until London!)

Bloggers as usual did it best (!!!), with off-duty models looking gorgeous as ever.

Margaret Zhang, Chiara Ferragni and Olivia Palermo.

One of my favourite shots to come out of fashion week. Gorgeous – no styling or hefty crew required.

The no- makeup ‘look’ is a bit dull. Love some of the colours though

I’m not feeling it. Kinda retro and dull colours.
