BWA Chats To: Georgina Coulter, Head Buyer MyWardrobe.com

My-Wardrobe.com has fast become the go to etailer for luxe, high end fashion that is easy, chic and fashion forward.

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week fast approaching we caught up with Georgina Coulter, the head womenswear buyer for the UK store, who is in town sourcing new labels to add to their Australian presence online.

Could you fill us in on your career journey?

I started my career in buying when I first joined a graduate scheme at the luxury British department store Fenwick. I originally focused on menswear and curated my first buy for the boutique contemporary womenswear department in 2006. I then moved on to the young fashion and denim department and gained a promotion to mens and womenswear buying manager in 2009. I made the move in to online retail when I joined my-wardrobe in 2011.

What are your survival tips for fashion week?

Flat shoes are a must for me, I spend so much time rushing from one buying appointment to the other.

My red Chanel lipstick completes any look and brightens my face no matter how many late shows I’ve been to.

Do you have any must have beauty products for fashion week?

My declor facial oil is essential, all the flying I have to do over the buying season really dries my skin out so this is a travel must.

What are you looking for when sourcing pieces for MyWardrobe?

My-wardrobe is known for its original edit of established and up and coming new designers so I’m always looking for a collection that will bring something fresh to the brand mix.

Any key trends you are looking out for this season?

For Aw13; Mannish tailoring and minimalism are key. The beauty is in the fabrics and silhouettes. SS14 is just starting but I am looking for brands that have an original spin on this.

What shows at MBFWA are you excited to see?

As my first time at MBFWA, I am looking forward to seeing all the designers and what Australia fashion has to offer. Of particular note, Christopher Esber, for his beautiful silhouettes, and Kahlo, I met the designers in the US and loved their work with leather. We already work with We Are Handsome so I am looking forward to seeing the vibrant collection shown on its own turf.

Do you have any favourite Australian designers?

I have always liked Zimmerman for fantastic swimwear and their new RTW collection has some beautiful lace pieces that make me want to jet off in the sun somewhere exotic! I am looking forward to picking up some new favourites over the week.

How would you describe Australian fashion?

I am looking forward to visiting the stores and people watching to absorb the Australian style over the week. I love the casual, nonchalant way Australians dress to fit in their lifestyle whilst still looking beautiful and chic.
