Beauty Review: Cleansers for Problem, Normal and Sensitive Skins

With so many skincare-savvy ladies (and men) out there, it really goes without saying that the routine you adopt before and after any kind of makeup application is probably the most important step in the process. Cleansers, toners, exfoliators and area-specific makeup removers – especially for eyes and lips – all exist to keep your skin in tip-top condition. Without them you’re risking a whole host of less than ideal problems like clogged pores, acne, irritation and premature wrinkles. But for today, let’s talk about cleaners and face washes.

If you’re reaching the end of your current bottle, aren’t satisfied with the results you’re getting with your current cleanser, or are just curious for a change, there’s a range of product so vast that compiling them all would soon turn into ‘The Encyclopaedia of Skincare’. To make the decision a touch less daunting we’ll focus on three cleansers, all of them relevant to different skin types, that are among the best in their field. So whether you have problem/oily skin, normal or dry and sensitive skin, read on and discover!

1. Medibac Clearing Skin Wash by Dermalogica

This cleanser is the last word in controlling problem skin – and keeping it under control. A 0.5% contingent of salicylic acid works hard and gets results when it comes to clearing congestions. At the same time, botanical extracts such as tea tree, eucalyptus, milk thistle and liquorice – all proven natural acne combatants – work in conjunction with the salicylic acid and strip the skin of nasty acne-causing bacteria. Camphor and menthol work in the background to cool inflammation, and all of the natural ingredients provide the cleanser with a fresh, pleasant scent. Ideal for oily/problem skin, but could also be used on normal skin that doesn’t suffer from any dryness or sensitivity. Available for $55.00 on Dermalogica’s Australian website here.

2. Chanel Precision Gel Purete Foaming Cleanser

This cleanser is a perfect middle-of-the-road option for all of you who are lucky enough to have no real skin woes to speak of. While it is a foaming cleanser, Gel Purete is gentle enough that it won’t wreak havoc on skin that might air to the side of dryness in the colder months. It is designed to deal specifically with the removal of pollutants from the skin, ranging from the remnants of the day’s makeup to the smog that sits over your CBD office. With a mattifying effect that’s perfect for slightly shiny skin and a price tag of $45.00 on chanel.com, Chanel Gel Purete cleanser is well worth the purchase. Add it to your beauty cupboard by purchasing it here.

3. Gatineau Soothing Cleansing Milk

A soothing cleanser designed especially for sensitive or easily inflamed skin that also decongests and clears skin? It might sound impossible, but Gatineau have got it all wrapped up in the form of their cleansing milk. This liquid gem is ideal for post-acne skin, especially those who have recently come off a strong medication such as Roaccutane, but also works wonders for skin that is otherwise sensitive, irritated or delicate. A blend of almond extract, hazel extract and silk powder nourish and protect the skin while keeping breakouts in check. The only downside to a non-foaming cleansing milk is that a little more elbow grease is required in order to completely remove any makeup, and could take a couple of cleanses before all traces are removed. That said, this cleansing milk is definitely worth the $38 you can purchase it for right here.

I read that even oily skin types should use a nice, gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin because by stripping all of the oil out it just encourages the body to create more to replace it which will lead to even more oil!
