A Beginners Guide To Perfect Eye Makeup

how to apply eye makeup

Eye makeup is an art form reserved for the gods, and the transformation it can bring about in a person’s appearance is impossible to understate. If you’re looking to upgrade your eye makeup game, here’s an easy step-by-step method to follow.

Whether you want to appear ferocious or gorgeous, eye makeup transforms your appearance in an instant. The combination of lots of practice, knowledge of how to select the best colours, and having a few makeup artist tips and tricks up you sleeve are all that’s required to take your look to the next level.

But the good news is, you really don’t need to be makeup artist to get your eye makeup just perfect. Anyone can start out simple and keep practising! Grab yourself a good eye makeup beginner kit consisting of a palette with a few different, easy to mix colours and an eye makeup brush, and get started.

If you’re ready to master the art of beautiful eye makeup, keep reading.

how to apply eye makeup 2

#1 – Eye primer is a must

Always make sure you use eye primer before you go out. This will help  your eye makeup stay in place for a long time. Using eye primer produces a smooth surface, which allows eye makeup to go on effortlessly. And if you have lids that are prone to oil buildup, this step is super important.

If you don’t have an eye shadow base, you can also use foundation or concealer instead. First, apply a small amount of eye primer and wait for it to dry. Then, use an eye shadow base to give your eye colours a good base to settle on.

#2 – Pick basic shades

Once you master the basics, you can start adding colours and glitters. To achieve a casual everyday look, you’ll need a lighter highlighter, a midtone to bring colour to your eyes, a deeper contouring hue, and a dab of black to enhance definition.

#3 – Select perfect blending tools

Whilst there are eye makeup brushes that are distinct from the other types of makeup brushes, many people actually prefer to apply eye makeup with their fingertips. If you’re just starting off though, it’s probably easiest to start with a brush.

Use a flat, little eye shadow brush at first, since it’ll make the application more accurate. Next, you’ll need a blending brush so that you can blend the colours together seamlessly to produce a flawless smoky appearance. You might want to consider including a smudger brush in your collection of makeup tools if you’re a fan of the smokey, seductive effect.

#4 – Using the eye shadow brush

When applying eye makeup, start with the lightest hue and work your way outwards from the inner edge of your eyes using the eye shadow brush. When applying eye makeup in general, you should always begin in the innermost corner of your eyelids. Also, check out everything you need to know about fake eyelashes.

#5 – Using the blending brush

Move your blending brush over the shade of the midtone and apply it just above the crease line. However, this time begin from the outside and smoothly work your way inward. Be careful not to overdo it, and work toward making it appear as smooth as you can.

The mid-tone can be any colour, from neutral to the one that best complements the clothing you’re wearing. If you want to play it safe, you should stick to peach, pink, or light orange.

#6 – Contour

Your eyes will seem more beautiful and defined thanks to contouring, which provides definition to your facial features. In addition, a well-contoured eye helps to balance out the rest of your features.

When you’re contouring your face with the darkest shade, begin at the outside corner of your eyes and work your way inward towards the crease. Make sure to keep the contour area lower than the mid-tone area.

#7 – Don’t forget the lower lash line

Once you’ve finished applying eye makeup to the eyelids, it’s time to move on to the lower lash line. Using a small brush, take a very little quantity of the mid-tone shade and apply it from the outside in. If you want drama, you can apply eyeliner to the lower lash line and/or the waterline of your eye.

#8 – Touch up

You only need a few more little adjustments, and you’re on the way to becoming expert in the art of applying eye makeup. Feel free to add eyeliner to the top lashes if you want to go for more definition and form.

Then, two coats of mascara should be applied to your lashes to give them length and volume. If you want to go for a look that is even more dramatic, you can always add fake lashes too. Read a quick guide to magnetic eyelashes.

If you’re just starting out, it’s best not to go headfirst into complex eye shadow methods. Instead, concentrate on mastering the fundamentals and a few key looks that can be your fallbacks for any occasion. The process of mastering the perfect instagram-worthy eye makeup may be tricky, but the end result is well worth the effort!
