How Under Eye Skincare Can Help Common Under Eye Issues

#1 – Under eye skincare for wrinkles, sagging and ageing

Let’s face it, a sagging, wrinkled under-eye has never been considered attractive. Often a result of premature ageing, wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet under and around the eyes are in many cases unavoidable.

However, there are a few things you can do to decrease the likelihood of wrinkles appearing under and around the eye and to ensure your under eye area stays as soft, supple, and youthful as possible.

To prevent wrinkles, sagging and premature ageing, it is recommended to use under eye skincare which is thick, hydrating, and highly moisturising to increase the suppleness and elasticity of the tissue in the area.

Eye creams created specifically for ageing or mature skin are also a good idea. These types of creams tend to be extra thick in consistency and texture and are intended to bring as much moisture as possible to the skin.

By making sure the under-eye is as hydrated as possible, this helps to smooth existing lines and wrinkles, and prevent future wrinkles from happening.

For eyes that are susceptible to wrinkles, a peptide eye gel is also worth considering. Eye creams that containin peptides in their list of ingredients can purposely target the fine lines which commonly develop under and around the eyes when ageing. Eye gels and creams containing peptides also support the skin’s natural cell repair and renewal mechanisms, which is ideal for ageing skin.

#2 – Dryness, redness, and sensitivity in the under eye area

Redness, dryness, and sensitivity of the tissue under the eyes can sometimes be caused by allergies. These allergies can include sensitivity to pollen, hayfever, dust, or other irritants, and can cause the eye to become itchy and uncomfortable, or to swell.

Swelling under the eye can also be a result of Dermatitis or Eczema, which can cause the skin under the eye to become inflamed or irritated. Importantly, if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is advisable to contact a healthcare professional, as you may need medication or other medical treatment.

Dryness of the skin is equally uncomfortable and can also result in rashes under the eye if not treated properly. Just like ageing under the eyes, if you are experiencing dryness under your eyes, it is advisable to use an under eye skincare cream that is rich in moisture and hydration.

#3 – Dark circles and puffiness of the under eye

Puffiness and dark circles under the eye – often referred to as eye bags – commonly occur due to lack of sleep which causes tiredness and fatigue.

However, bags under the eye may not always be a result of tiredness. They can also be caused by consuming excess caffeine, smoking tobacco, discolouration of the under eye area due to pigmentation, or even genetics.

To reduce puffiness, dark circles, and swelling in the under eye area, it is recommended to use cooling, gel-based under eye skincare products which soothe the skin. Opt for products containing ingredients such as collagen, for example.

For dark circles specifically, a brightening treatment can be used. Think eye creams containing chamomile and other lightening ingredients. To maximise the soothing and cooling sensation, gel-based eye products can also be stored in the refrigerator for optimal results.

You may also want to try rolling over the eye with a jade or rose quartz roller. However, a simple teaspoon cooled in the fridge and gently pressed onto the under-eye area can work just as well.
