The idea of shopping your wardrobe is based around the crazy notion of re-appreciating what you already have rather than indulging a constant flow of new things. You may be suffering from a lack of space and need some wardrobe space saving ideas, a strict budget, or just general boredom from wearing the same old easy outfits.

#1 – Undertake to Update Your Under-pinnings
Perhaps you’ve shied away from short skirts or dresses? Or maybe you’re bored of hiding your legs away between April-October? Adding interesting hosiery, whether patterned or coloured can quickly elevate an otherwise boring outfit and make what you deem “unwearable” wearable again. There are some incredible leggings, tights and stockings available and you do not need to spend a fortune. Unless it’s a super special occasion, opt for thicker varieties that withstand washing where possible.
In the right context, sheer tops can be brought to life by adding “feature” underwear that peeks through. A hint of what’s underneath can be totally acceptable in the right doses whilst breathing new life into otherwise overlooked and/or evening pieces.
Lastly, having one or two high-quality, dependable strapless bras in combination with smooth-fitting nude underwear is completely essential for getting the most out of strapless tops, special occasion dresses, halters and other items such as light coloured pants. Don’t relegate these purchases into the “too hard basket” simply because you lack the right foundations to make them work.
If your bras no longer fit, give yourself permission to buy ones that do! However, be sure to know your correct size. According to Mary Holland Lingerie, the vast majority of women are wearing bras that are completely wrong for them. Wearing a bra in the wrong size affects your comfort and appearance.

#2 – Wardrobe R&R: Repair and Renew
So you’ve got some great heels that have started wearing down, some pants that need hemming, or a jacket that’s looking dull? Advice: Don’t let quality items waste away when all they need is a little TLC! Instead, bundle them up and give them the love they deserve.
Re-soling and re-heeling shoes can add years to their life, and other minor refreshes such as replacing missing buttons, fixing broken zippers and having hems adjusted are nearly always worth the nominal investment as well. Drop your much-loved jacket or coats for day at the clothing spa (aka drycleaners) – they’ll really thank you for it!
Let’s face it, it’s faster to repair and rejuvenate items you love, than finding brand new ones to take their place. Don’t let them become a statistic.
#3 – Crafty Adornment
One of the easiest ways to enhance and update an item of clothing is by changing the buttons. On most fast-fashion garments, buttons are plain and functional adding very little in the style stakes. Why not replace plain (cheap-looking) buttons with larger, more designer-inspired buttons? Think metallic, a contrasting colour, vintage or something sparkly. Not only will you be adding a fresh touch – you’ll be wearing something totally unique.
If high-end designer if your thing, you can actually buy genuine designer buttons (such as those iconic “CC” Chanel lovelies) off sites such as Etsy. Otherwise a trip to Lincraft (or hit up eBay) will provide more than enough for you to choose from.
