While we are all about everything Audrey here at BWA and no one could take her place in our hearts, we feel like we have to take a second to recognize some of our favourite “Audrey” women throughout the ages.
When one of the most famous handbags in the world is named after you at one of the most beloved international fashion houses, suffice to say that Jane Birkin is one of the most famous, influential and stylish women of the last 50 years. Thus, this week, we are taking a little Audrey diversion and celebrating Miss Birkin and her amazing style.
Jane Birkin, the long legged beauty and lover to the famed Serge Gainsbourg, really cemented and evolved that free spirited, Parisian bohemian style of the sixties that still emanates throughout the fashion world today.
As the story goes, it was in the eighties that Birkin was seated on a flight next to THE Jean-Louis Dumas, chief executive of Hermes. Birkin’s signature straw basket was upturned in the overhead compartment during the flight, and they chatted about the very fact that she couldn’t find a travel bag that she actually liked. Ever the muse to powerful men, within a few years, Jean-Louis had designed one in her honour.
The Birkin bag remains one of the most coveted and famous designer bags in the world, with waiting lists and hefty price tags attached.
Check out her incredible style for some Audrey style inspiration!
