Save Money For Shoes: DIY Beauty

Our four fave DIY beauty treatments to try…for when you have a fridge full of fruit and want to spend your cash on shoes instead!

For rough elbows and heels:

Ingredients:

Fresh figs, hardened coconut oil and sugar (optional if you choose to make a more aggressive scrub).

Recipe:

Take ripe figs and mash or blend then in a bowl. Add coconut oil. This mixture will gently exfoliate, with the seeds from the figs. The Coconut oil (which Miranda Kerr swears by) is highly moisturizng. Place in fridge and then add some sugar to this to create a dry scrub. Use in the bath or shower to rinse off instantly. The bonus is no nasties are going into the drain and environment!

Tea treatments for luscious locks:
Ingredients:

2 tea bags (chamomile, a golden mix for blondes; rooibos, a rich orange for redheads; or black tea, dark for brunettes), 2 cups water.

How to make it:

Steep tea bags in boiling water for 10 minutes. Let the liquid cool to room temperature or refrigerate it. Pour the mixture over wet, just-washed hair, and massage in. Leave for ten minutes and then wash it out. The tea will lower PH levels in the hair, meaning it will close the tiny cuticles in your hair- making it glossy.

Strawberry scrub:

Ingredients:

1/4 cup mashed strawberries, 2 tablespoons honey, 1/2 cup yogurt, Juice of 1 small lemon

Instructions:

Mash up the strawberries. Squeeze the lemon juice into the strawberries, and then pour the honey. Add the yogurt and mix until smooth. Pop the mask on and leave for a good 10 minutes, before rinsing. Lemon provides your skin with a chemical exfoliation to brighten your skin by removing dead skin cells, thanks to its natural acid, Honey is a natural moisturizer, and the calcium in the yogurt helps to stimulate cell regrowth. Sounds good enough to eat right?

Lemon sea salt scrub:

What you will need:

5 tablespoons sea salt, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 lemon.

How to make it:

First mix the olive oil and sea salt together. Once the salt gets coated by the oil, the lemon won’t dissolve it! Next cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the salt + oil. Mix and mash. Use this for an all over body scrub. The lemon’s properties (as mentioned before) work well with the moisturizing nature of olive oil and the gentle scrub of the sea salt.
